Corpus Christi, TX - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi scored five runs in its final two trips to the plate to post a 7-6 win over Manhattan in the series finale between the teams.
The loss spoiled an outstanding performance by senior RHP Jacob Knight (Oakley, CA / Chabot CC), who struck out nine while yielding just two runs on five hits over 8.0 innings.
Sophomore Sam Franco (Bardonia, NY / Clarkstown South) scored the first run in the top of the first on a throwing error, before the Jaspers added to the lead in the third with another run.
Junior Will Trochiano (Morganville, NJ / Marlboro) singled with one out, before moving to third on Franco's second hit of the day, and would come around to score on sophomore Nick Cimillo's (Airmont, NY / Suffern) RBI single.
After the Islanders answered with two runs in the the fourth, freshman Alfredo Delgado (Bronx, NY / Fordham Prep) quickly reclaimed the lead with a solo home run to lead off the fifth.
Manhattan would push its advantage out to 6-2 in the seventh with three runs. Junior Jake Knop (Portland, ME / Portland) led off with a walk and would steal second, before scoring on a Franco RBI double. Cimillo followed with a RBI double of his own, and would later come around to score on a Matt Padre (Jr., Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) sacrifice fly.
After running into trouble in the fourth, Knight would settle down and scattered just one single and one walk over his final four innings of work.
Unfortunately, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi tied it up with four in the ninth, before winning it in the 10th.
Franco finished up with 4-for-5 with a double, two runs and a RBI, while Cimillo was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run to lead the way for the Jaspers.
Trevor Beard, Scott Hastings, Luke Marbach and Mike Williams all had two hits to pace the Islanders.
The Islanders improve to 5-6 while the Jaspers fall to 2-7.
Manhattan will return to action on Saturday, March 7 against UAlbany at Van Cortlandt Park, with first pitch tabbed for 12:00 pm.
