Awonusi, Boone Golden At MAAC Championships

New York, NY - Anu Awonusi (Dublin, Ireland / Kilkenny College) was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet after winning the men's shot put at the 2020 MAAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Fellow Jasper Niasia Boone (Morrisville, PA / Pennsbury) also earned gold at MAACs, defending her 200-meter title with an indoor PR. 

Gold Medals
Awonusi was the only competitor to hit a distance over 17.00 meters in the men's shot put, recording a throw of 17.36 meters. The win marks his first MAAC Championship and his Most Outstanding Performer honor marks his first major postseason award. 

Boone recorded a personal-best time of 24.75 in the 200-meters, beating her former PR by nearly .20 seconds. She also earned a bronze medal in the women's 60-meters, tying her indoor PR time of 7.83. 

Distance
Andria Scaglione (Oceanside, NY / Oceanside) earned a bronze medal in the women's 3,000-meter race, recording a personal-best time of 9:40.30. Scaglione beat her former PR by nearly 15 seconds, and was just 1.3 seconds off of former Jasper Lisa Fajardo's school record of 9:39.00 in the event. 

Sprints
Quemarii Williams (Danville, IL / Danville) and Alexander (A.J.) Moore (Colonia, NJ / John F. Kennedy) both medaled in the men's 400-meters, with Williams earning a silver and Moore following just behind for the bronze. Williams set a personal best with a time of 48.90, while Moore recorded a time of 49.17. 

Relays
The Jasper men secured a bronze medal in the 4x800-meter relay. Ryan Lindrud (Basking Ridge, NJ / Ridge), Ryan Tierney (Staten Island, NY / St. Peter's), Marc Carrera (Staten Island, NY / St. Peter's) and Williams ran a team time of 7:46.31.

Throws
In the women's shot put, Alexandra Preckajlo (Ocean, NJ / St. Rose) and Lasma Padedze (Ogre, Latvia / Ogre Secondary School No. 1) went 2-3, with Preckajlo setting a PR distance of 14.09 meters and increasing her personal best by .22 meters. Padeze finished with a throw of 13.84 meters, a season-best distance. 

Day One
The Jaspers earned four medals on day one of the MAAC Championships, including three for individual performances. Nicholas Kocienda (Seaford, NY / Seaford) won a silver medal in the men's weight throw with a distance of 18.15 meters, one of only two competitors to throw over 18 meters on the day. In the women's weight throw, Nina Bjorkman (Vasteras, Sweden / Widenska Idrottsgymnasium) also earned silver, setting a PR of 17.53 meters. Elijah Sleasman (Loudonville, NY / Shaker) won bronze in the men's pole vault, reaching a height of 3.90 meters in his first MAAC Championships. 

The men's DMR squad, made up of Lindrud, Tierney, Carrera and Jordan Greene (Boston, MA / Newton North), placed second in the event, earning a silver medal with a time of 10:08.56.

Team Scores
The Manhattan men finished in fourth overall with a team score of 69 points. The women finished fifth with 65 points. Monmouth took home the men's championship with a team score of 220, while Rider earned the women's championship with 154.5 points, just a half point over second-place Quinnipiac.
