Box Score (PDF)

Riverdale, NY -
Manhattan scored five-straight goals to open the game, en route to posting a 10-8 victory over VMI in non-conference action at Gaelic Park.

Freshman Kyle Gucwa (Pottstown, PA / Bishop Shanahan) scored six goals with an assist to lead the way for the Jaspers.

Sophomore Liam Walshe (Commack, NY / Commack) opened up the scoring, before assisting on Brandon Grinnell's (Wakfefield, MA / Wakefield Memorial) man-up score to make it a 2-0 game with 4:30 remaining in the first period.

Gucwa then took over, depositing three unassisted scores in just under three minutes to cap Manhattan's five-goal first period.

The Keydets would respond with three second-quarter scores to trim the deficit to 5-3.

Junior Justin Malpica (Glen Head, NY / Long Island Lutheran) quelled the spurt with an unassisted goal to open the second-half scoring, while sparking a 4-0 run.

Gucwa delivered back-to-back goals, the last of which came off a fastbreak pass from senior Kelson Borisenko (Winnipeg, Manitoba / Hill Academy). Junior Sean MacKinney (Martinsville, NJ / Bridewater-Raritan) capped the spurt with a goal off a pass from Gucwa.

VMI briefly answered with a goal at the 12:37 mark of the fourth quarter, before Gucwa deposited his sixth goal, off a pass from MacKinney.

The Keydets would make a late run with four-straight goals, but couldn't get any closer in falling 10-8.

Junior Brendan Krebs made 14 saves between the pipes to earn the win for Manhattan.

The Jaspers went 12-of-21 from the faceoff X, while killing off all three VMI extra-man opportunities.

Seniors Nick Galioto (Kings Park, NY / Kings Park), Rob Johnson (Bayport, NY / Mount St. Mary's) and CJ Scharf (West Islip, NY / West Islip) each had a team-best three goals for Manhattan.

Josh Bass, John Daniel and Ryan Perouty each had two goals to lead the way for the visitors.

The Jaspers will look to make it two in a row, when they make the short trek to Wagner on Saturday, February 22 for a 12:00 pm match-up.
