WBB Hits The Road For Saint Peter's Match-Up

Jersey City, NJ - Manhattan women's basketball (5-7, 2-1 MAAC) will play its first road game of 2020 at Saint Peter's (4-7, 1-1 MAAC) on January 9. The afternoon tip is scheduled for 4:00 pm in the Yanitelli Center. The game can be streamed live on ESPN3. 

GAME NOTES

Last Outing
Manhattan outlasted Niagara for a 68-65 win in a MAAC battle at Draddy on January 4. The victory marked the Jaspers' second-straight win.

Four Jaspers scored in double-figures for Manhattan, including Gabby Cajou (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland), Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan), Julie Høier (Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium) and Lizahya Morgan (East Hartford, CT / Capital Preparatory Magnet). Cajou just missed a points-assists double-double, doling out a season-best nine assists while contributing a team-high 15 points. Warley added 14 points to the Jasper offense, scoring in double-figures for the second-straight game. She added a season-high five steals and a season-high three blocks, as well. Høier earned her first double-double of the season, contributing 10 points and pulling down a season-best 11 rebounds, including nine on the defensive glass. Her four assists ties her career-best, and marks the second-straight game she has hit that number.

The Rankings
Manhattan ranks second in the MAAC in scoring defense, holding opponents to 61 points per game. The Jaspers are also the conference leaders in three-point field goal percentage defense (.286), while ranking second in blocked shots per game (3.3) and leading the MAAC in steals per game (9.6). 

Manhattan is tied with Baylor for fewest turnovers per game (13.7), coming in at 41st in the nation. The squad also ranks among the nation's top 50 for best turnover margin, coming in at 43rd (4.17).

Rookie Taking Charge
Freshman Emily LaPointe (Staten Island, NY / Staten Island Academy) earned her fourth MAAC Rookie of the Week award on January 6 after a career performance against Canisius. It is the most of all MAAC freshmen. LaPointe leads the squad in scoring, averaging 11.3 points per game (18th in the MAAC). She also ranks ninth in the MAAC for three-pointers made (1.8 per game), and 11th for steals per game (1.6).

Upcoming Milestones
With 518 career rebounds, Warley is 23 away from tying Linda Bores (1980-84) for 16th in program history. Warley is also 54 steals away from 15th on that all-time list. Currently fifth on the program's all-time blocks list, she is six away from 100 for her career.

Now at 244 career assists, Cajou is 13 away from tying Donna Seybold (1986-90) for 16th all-time, and is 28 steals away from tying Michelle Pacheco (2006-10) on that all-time list. 

Pamela Miceus (Haverstraw, NY / North Rockland) is just three blocks away from 46, which would tie her with both Barbara Kelly (1980-81) and Lindsey Loutsenhizer (2008-12) for 16th all-time.

About the Peacocks
Saint Peter's currently leads the MAAC in team scoring, averaging 78.4 points per game, posting the league's best free throw percentage (.802) and ranking second in three-point field goals made per game (7.1). Four players are averaging double-figures for the Peacocks, including Gabrielle Harris, who leads Saint Peter's with 15.0 points per game. Zoe Pero's 5.1 rebounds per match-up is also a team-high.

Previous Meeting
Manhattan and Saint Peter's last met in the first round of the 2019 MAAC tournament, with the #6 Jaspers earning a 62-41 win over the #11 Peacocks. Warley led the way on offense for Manhattan, scoring a game-high 16 points and nabbing nine rebounds on her way to being named the Geico Player of the Game. Warley shot more than 57 percent for the day. Her nine boards came all on the defensive end, and she added three assists and four blocks to her stat line.

All-Time Series
Saint Peter's leads the all-time series 52-36 with the Jaspers' gaining the advantage as of late. Manhattan Head Coach Heather Vulin is 6-0 against the Peacocks, while Manhattan swept Saint Peter's in three games during the 2018-19 season.
