Riverdale, NY - Manhattan women's basketball held the Iona Gaels to just two points in the third quarter Saturday, January 25, on the way to a 54-32 victory in Draddy Gymnasium.
Manhattan's record improves to 8-10 on the season and 5-4 in MAAC play, while the Gaels fall to 4-12 overall and 3-4 in the league.
Highlights:
- Iona's 32 points was the lowest opponent point total for the Jaspers this season, with the Gaels hitting just 14 field goals, also an opponent low.
- Manhattan earned 14 steals in the game, a season-high for the team, while forcing 24 turnovers from the Gaels and scoring 22 points off TOs.
- With 45 rebounds in the game, Manhattan was one off its team season-high and out-rebounded Iona by 12. Manhattan is undefeated when out-rebounding its opponent (7-0), as well as undefeated when earning 40 or more boards in a game (4-0).
- Ahead 14-13 at the end of the first quarter, the Jaspers held the Gaels to just five points in the second period, limiting Iona to two field goals. The onslaught continued in the third, as Iona went 1-15 from the floor while the Jaspers shot over 64 percent to extend their lead to 28.
- Emily LaPointe (Staten Island, NY / Staten Island Academy) led the Jaspers with 12 points, her sixth-straight double-digit scoring performance and the ninth time this year the rookie has led the team in scoring. She added three steals.
- Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) earned her fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 boards. She added a season-high (tied) five steals against the Gaels. Julie Høier (Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium) also nabbed 11 rebounds for Manhattan, hitting her season-high for the third time this year.
- With a career-high four blocks in the game, Pamela Miceus (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) moved into 13th all-time, surpassing Linda Bores (1980-84) and current Manhattan Athletic Director Marianne Reilly (1978-82). She now has 54 blocks for her career and is 11 away from 12th place in program history.
