Staten Island, NY - Andria Scaglione (Oceanside, NY / Oceanside) and
Nina Bjorkman (Vasteras, Sweden / Widenska Idrottsgymnasium) each picked-up wins at the 2020 NYC Gotham Cup on Friday, January 17 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island.
Highlights:
- Scaglione won the women's 5,000-meter race, recording a time of 17:47.23, the MAAC's third-best performance of the year in the event.
- Bjorkman earned her third-straight first-place finish in the women's weight throw on Friday, recording a distance of 16.94 meters, a personal best. Teammate Alexandra Preckajlo (Ocean, NJ / St. Rose) placed third in the event with a distance of 15.49 meters.
- Reigning MAAC Female Field Performer of the Week Lasma Padedze (Ogre, Latvia / Ogre Secondary School No. 1) snagged a season-best in the shot put, hitting a distance of 13.78 meters and securing second place. With the performance, she again tops the MAAC's best shot put distances this season. Preckajlo took home third in the event, reaching 13.05 meters.
- David Lozipone (Massapequa Park, NY / Kellenberg Memorial) placed third in the men's 3,000-meter race with a time of 8:35.37 in his first 3,000-meter competition.
- Nicholas Kocienda (Seaford, NY / Seaford) won third in the men's weight throw, earning a distance of 17.02 meters.
- Nicola Scaglione (Oceanside, NY / Oceanside) picked-up a fourth-place finish in the women's mile, recording a time of 5:05.67 and earning a PR in the event. The time is also the MAAC's third-best performance of the season.
- Michael Crorkin (Bronx, NY / Xavier) finished in fifth in the men's 1,000-meter race, earning a time of 2:33.52.
