Easton, PA - Freshman hitter
Lizzi Brown (Orlando, FL / Bishop Moore) led the Jasper attack Friday, producing 3.00 kills per set to lift Manhattan volleyball over both Delaware State and Lafayette on the opening day of the Crosstown Tournament.
The victories were the first and second on the young season for the Jaspers, who move to 2-3 overall.
Match One Highlights:
- Manhattan defeated Delaware State 3-0 (25-10, 27-25, 25-22) for the Jaspers' first three-set victory since they defeated Siena on October 7, 2018.
- Brown, in her third start of her collegiate career, earned 12 kills against the Hornets, her best performance of the season and a match-high. She hit .500 in 20 total attempts, in addition to adding two blocks and two aces to her performance.
- After a quick victory in the first set, Manhattan gritted out a closer second set, going up 23-22 on straight aces from Abby Wilde (Parkesberg, PA / Octorora) and Reyn Hoffman (Ventura, CA / Ventura).
- A kill from sophomore Julia Menocal (Bronx, NY / Preston) gave Manhattan the one-point lead, while Kelly Markowski (Winter Park, FL / Lake Highland Preparatory) secured the second-set win for the Jaspers on a kill of her own.
- Determined to sweep the match, Manhattan jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the third. But the Hornets stayed alive through a series of runs, including a 4-0 span that tied the set up at 18 all.
- Brown tallied the last three kills of the match to close it out for the Jaspers.
Match Two Highlights:
- Meagan Miller (Oakville, ON / Oakville Trafalgar) earned a career-high 13 kills against the Leopards, helping Manhattan to a 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 21-15, 25-17) victory in the team's second match of the day.
- Erin Hoener (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) also set a career-high, tallying a match-high seven blocks. She added 12 kills of her own.

- Nashally Eleutiza (Orlando, FL / Monroe) totaled double-digit kills, leading all players with 22 and averaging 4.29 digs per set for both Friday matches.

- Grace Tulevech nabbed 13 kills for the Leopards, while teammate Elli Carrera-Justiz added 12.
