Easton, PA - Manhattan volleyball is back on the road this weekend at the annual Crosstown Tournament, hosted by Lafayette and Lehigh.
The Jaspers will open on Friday, September 6 at 1:00 p.m., before facing Lafayette at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, Manhattan will move to Bethlehem, PA, to take on Lehigh at 3:00 p.m.
Match Notes:
- Manhattan opened the season 0-3 after a three-match series at the RMU Sheraton Invitational last week.
- Julia Menocal (Bronx, NY / Preston) led the Jaspers with 27 kills (2.35 per set), including a career-high 12 in a five-set battle against Elon.
- First-year transfer Nashally Eleutiza (Orlando, FL / Monroe College) started all three matches in the libero spot for the Jaspers, averaging a team-high 3.50 digs per set and earning All-Tournament Team honors.
- Erin Hoener (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) gathered 15 blocks on the weekend, tying her career-high of six in the Elon match. Meagan Miller (Oakville, ON / Oakville Trafalgar) and Lizzi Brown (Orlando, FL / Bishop Moore) also added six blocks apiece in the match, setting their collegiate highs.
- Delaware State went 1-4 in the team's opening weekend at the Alabama State Tournament.
- Freshman Anadys Valentin totaled 57 kills and 44 digs for the Hornets over the four matches, on her way to MEAC Rookie of the Week honors.
- Lafayette now stands at 0-3 after falling to UMBC, Temple and Fairfield and the UMBC Invitational this past week.
- The Leopards took the 2018 MAAC finalist Stags to five sets, going up 2-1 before Fairfield secured the victory with wins in the fourth and fifth sets.
- Lehigh is also 0-3 after losing to Ohio State, VCU and Texas Tech at the Sports Imports Classic.
- The Mountain Hawks, led by Sabrina Lancaster's 18 kills, nabbed a set from Texas Tech on August 31, forcing the match into the fourth set, but were unable to complete the comeback.
