Riverdale, NY - Though tied at 23 with Rider in the fourth set, Manhattan volleyball was unable to force a deciding fifth on Sunday, falling to the Broncs 3-1 in Draddy.
The Jaspers move to 0-2 in the league (2-10 overall), while Rider remains undefeated in the MAAC at 2-0 (5-8 overall).
Highlights:
- Manhattan took the opening set 25-20 before dropping the next three by a score of 25-21, 25-20, 25-23.
- Vivian Donovan (Newport Beach, CA / Newport Harbor) led the Jaspers' attack against Rider, earning 12 kills. She hit .154 on the day and added three digs.
- Erin Hoener (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) contributed eight kills for Manhattan, with two blocks.
- Julia Menocal (Bronx, NY / Preston) totaled a career-high five service aces against the Broncs, including three-straight to help the Jaspers win the first set. Menocal has contributed eight aces in the past two matches, two more than she produced last year as a freshman.
- Menocal and middle blocker Meagan Miller (Oakville, ON / Oakville Trafalgar) tied for a team-high three blocks in the match.
- Libero Nashally Eleutiza (Orlando, FL / Monroe) averaged 4.25 digs per set against Rider, while the Jasper defense held the Broncs to just .154 hitting on the day. Rider was bolstered by freshman hitter Morgan Romano, a three-time MAAC Rookie of the Week, who had 30 kills on .396 hitting in the match.
- Setter Abby Wilde (Parkesberg, PA / Octorora) finished with 6.25 assists per set on Sunday, totaling 25 for the afternoon.
