McConnell, Burns Win Major Awards

Fairfield, CT Katie McConnell was voted BSN Sports MAAC Coach of the Year while freshman Cassidy Burns (Massapequa, NY / Plainedge) was lauded as the MAAC Rookie of the Year at the league's annual postseason banquet on the campus of Fairfield University.

McConnell Highlights:
* Manhattan posted a school-record matching 11 overall and six MAAC victories.
* After being picked to finish last in the annual preseason poll, McConnell guided the Jaspers to their first postseason berth since the 2009 season and a six-win improvement.

* Manhattan notched double-figures in victories for the third time in school history and a winning record for just the fifth time.
* The Jaspers also went an impressive 7-2 in games decided by three goals or less, including 4-0 during MAAC play.
* Under her tutelage, Manhattan ranked 13th nationally with 21.35 ground balls per game and 15th with a 9.10 GAA, with both totals pacing the MAAC.
* She is just the second coach (Jill Donovan-2004) in school history to earn MAAC Coach of the Year honors.

Burns Highlights:
* Burns is the second-ever Manhattan student-athlete (Chrissy Gutenberger-2009) to earn MAAC Rookie of the Year accolades.
* Scored 15 goals with a team-leading 25 assists, en route to finishing with 40 points.

* Her 25 assists are sixth in the MAAC, third in program history and the most by a Jasper rookie.
* Had eight multi-assist performances, including five with at least three.
* Collected three MAAC Rookie of the Week citations.
* Registered two goals and four assists in win over Lafayette, before scoring three times with two assists in victory against Iona.

Monmouth's Nicole Ceraso was voted Offensive Player of the Year with Fairfield's Megan Beach tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Year, Monmouth's Rachel Mills the Midfielder of the Year and Siena's Sammy Horton the Goalkeeper of the Year.  

Additionally, senior defender Emma Kaishian (Yorktown, NY / Yorktown) was named to the All-MAAC First Team, while senior attack Molly Fitzpatrick (Yorktown, NY / Lakeland), senior defender Caitlin Murphy (Carmel, NY / Carmel) and senior goalkeeper Nikki Prestiano (Yorktown Heights, NY / Yorktown) were tabbed to the Second Team. Burns was joined on the MAAC All-Rookie team by freshman Grace Lipponer (Lake Grove, NY / Sachem North).
