The Purple Eagles are now 12-27 and 9-7 in the MAAC while the Jaspers fall to 20-26 and 7-11 in the league.
Game 1: Niagara 9, Manhattan 7
- Moore got the bats moving early, doubling to right field for an RBI in the top of the first and giving Manhattan a 1-0 lead.
- Niagara quickly responded in the bottom of the inning when Jerri Ann Orfano homered to center field with two on to take a 3-1 lead for the Purple Eagles.
- In the bottom of the second, Niagara extended the lead out to 5-1 with two runs.
- Manhattan would slice the deficit in half in the top of the fourth as Moore walked, before sophomore Adriana Gambino (Stamford, CT / Westhill) crushed her first home run of the year, a two-run shot to right field.
- The Purple Eagles would again answer in the bottom part of the frame with four runs in opening up a 9-3 lead.
- The Jaspers would put a late scare into Niagara as Moore crushed a grand slam in the top of the seventh.
- Gambino then reached with an infield single, but was left stranded as the Purple Eagles escaped with the two-run victory.
- Moore was a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and a walk while falling a triple shy of the cycle.
- Gambino went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI as senior Lauren Pitney (Arsonia, CT / St. Joseph's) walked three times and scored twice.
- Niagara opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, before Manhattan rallied for three runs with a two-out rally in the top of the fifth.
- Senior Kat Prevo (San Diego, CA / Our Lady of Peace) and classmate Esther Gonsalez (San Antonio, TX / James Madison) got the comeback started with back-to-back singles, before junior Christine Gebhardt (Middletown, NJ / Middletown North) delivered a two-run triple.
- Moore followed with a run-scoring single through the middle to plate Gebhardt while giving Manhattan a 3-2 advantage.
- After the Purple Eagles quickly tied the game in the bottom part of the frame, the Jaspers manufactured a run in the top of the sixth.
- Freshman Megan Gillooley (Clifton Park, NY / Shenendehowa) walked, stole second and advanced to third on a pass ball. Prevo then delivered an infield single to make it a 4-3 game.
- Unfortunately, Niagara responded with three runs in the decisive bottom of the sixth.
- Moore doubled in the top of the seventh, but was left stranded.
- Sophomore Daniela Chiorazzi (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland), Moore and Prevo all had two hits to pace a nine-hit attack.
- Moore finished the doubleheader 5-for-6 (.833) with two doubles, one home run, two runs, six RBI and two walks en route to posting 1.667 slugging percentage and an .875 OBP.
The Jaspers will play a non-conference doubleheader at Stony Brook Tuesday, April 30, starting at 2:00 pm.
