MANHATTAN CLINCHES MAAC CHAMPIONSHIP BERTH
- With the Jaspers' 11-9 Senior Day triumph over Quinnipiac, Manhattan clinched a playoff berth for the upcoming MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship.
- The Jaspers enter the final week of MAAC play in second place and with a win over Monmouth can clinch a bye to the semifinal round.
- In clinching the aforementioned spot in the MAAC Championship, Manhattan won its 10th match of the year, while notching double-figures in victories for the third third time in program history (2004, 2009).
- Manhattan honored its Senior Class of Jordyn DiCostanzo, Caitlin Murphy, Molly Fitzpatrick, Jillian Calandra, Nicole Quivelli, Talia Price, Nikki Prestiano and Emma Kaishian.
- Fitzpatrick scored a season-high five goals, including the game-clinching score to lead the way for the Jaspers while Murphy added a goal and two assists.
- Prestiano earned his third MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honor after posting a perfect 2-0 record between the pipes with an 8.5 GAA and a .414 save percentage.
- In a 14-8 win over Iona, she made six saves, including the 500th of her career, and followed that up with six more stops in a narrow 11-9 win over Quinnipiac.
- Burns, like Prestiano, was lauded by the league for the third time this year. She scored four goals with four assists, two ground balls and two draw controls in Manhattan's perfect week.
- Her four assists give her a school-record 21 on the season, surpassing Rory Maguire's mark of 18 set in 1999. B
- Burns, who has 14 goals on the year, began the week with three goals, two assists and two draw controls in the victory over Iona, before adding a goal and two more helpers in the triumph over Quinnipiac.
- For the sixth time this year, the Jaspers have collected a pair of weekly MAAC accolades.
- All told, Manhattan has recorded six MAAC Rookie of the Week honors, five Defensive Player of the Week accolades and one Offensive Player of the Week citation.
- Burns and freshman Grace Lipponer have each won three rookie citations while Prestiano has been lauded as the top defender three times and Kaishian twice with sophomore Alaina Burgess winning the lone offensive honor.
- Manhattan's 8.29 goals-allowed per game ranks ninth in Division I women's lacrosse and first in the MAAC.
- With a team save percentage at 48.9 percent, Manhattan is the 17th-best team in the nation in that category and second in the league.
- The team's 21.57 ground balls per game are 12th in the country and tops in the MAAC.
- Overall, the Jaspers rank in the top-55 in seven different categories, including the three statistics above as well as fouls per game (8.4-50th), turnovers per game (15.8-48th/2nd MAAC), scoring margin (1.14-48th) and win percentage (.714-23rd).
- Kaishian's 3.36 ground balls per game are sixth and her 1.79 caused turnovers per effort are 35th.
- Prestiano continues to rank among the best, sporting an 8.34 GAA (8th) and .484 save percentage (22nd).
- She is also 12th with 3.29 ground balls per game while Fitzpatrick is 84th with a .574 free position percentage.
- Among all active Division I players, Kaishian is 10th with 2.68 ground balls per game in her career and 166 total scoops, while her 1.24 caused turnovers are 29th.
- Meanwhile, Prestiano's 507 career saves are the 13th-most for an active Division I goalkeeper.
- Sophomore Alaina Burgess collected her third game-winning goal of the year against Quinnipiac and is tied for third in the MAAC.
- Fitzpatrick is third in the MAAC with 2.64 goals per game while Burns is fourth with 1.5 assists each time out.
- Defensively, Prestiano is second in the circuit in save percentage (.484) while Kaishian is third with 1.79 caused turnovers per game.
- The Hawks are 10-5 and 4-2 in the MAAC, and are coming off of a 16-6 victory over Canisius.
- Monmouth is led by the high-powered trio of Nicole Ceraso (32 goals, 33 assists), Allison Turturro (39 goals, 2 assists) and Caroline Bleck (32 goals, 6 assists).
- Riley Brager is 8-5 between the pipes, registering a 10.67 GAA and a .439 save percentage.
- Wednesday marks the 10th meeting between the teams.
- The Jaspers will be looking for their first-ever win over the Hawks.
- The last time the teams met in West Long Branch, Monmouth posted a narrow 9-7 victory on April 19, 2017.
- Entering this week, the Purple Eagles are 5-10 and 2-4 in the league and are battling for a MAAC Championship berth.
- Two of Niagara's four MAAC setbacks have been by one goal.
- Reigning MAAC Player of the Year Rachel Maccheyne is one of the top offensive players in the nation with 58 goals and 13 assists while Caroline Crump has 38 goals and 14 assists.
- Manhattan leads the all-time series by a 14-9 count, but will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak to Niagara.
- The Jaspers will also be aiming for their first victory in Niagara Falls since posting a 17-3 victory on April 3, 2009.
