Late Rally Falls Short

Riverdale, NY - Manhattan dropped a heartbreaking 6-5 decision to Marist in MAAC action at Gaelic Park, despite a career-high 17 saves from sophomore Brendan Krebs (East Williston, NY / Chaminade).

Trailing by four with less than eight minutes to play, the Jaspers unleashed a furious rally that saw them rip off three-straight goals in just over five minutes. Freshman Tadhg O'Riordan (Tappan, NY / Tappan Zee) started the spurt with an unassisted score with 7:29 remaining.

The defense then held strong on three-straight possessions before senior Parker Giarratana (Delray, FL / Boca Raton Community) scored off a CJ Scharf (Jr., West Islip, NY / West Islip) feed to trim the deficit to 6-4 with just 2:42 to play.

Senior Robert Carroll (Grosse Point Park, MI / Grossed Point South) won the ensuing faceoff, before Giarratana scored with just over two minutes remaining.

Marist won the next faceoff and ran the clock down before turning it over as senior Dylan DeMuro (Yorktown Heights, NY / Stepinac) collected the ground ball with 29 seconds on the clock. However, sophomore Jake Nicolosi's (West Islip, NY / West Islip) last-second attempt was blocked, allowing the Red Foxes to escape with the win.
 
Marist improves to 4-3 and 2-0 in the MAAC while Manhattan falls to 4-5 and 1-2 in the league.

The visitors opened the scoring, before Nicolosi fed junior Trevor Pelletier (Miami, FL / Gulliver Prep) for the first Jasper goal of the afternoon with 8:00 to play in the first quarter.

Classmate Luke Hanson (Middletown, NY / Minisink Valley) broke the deadlock with just over eight minutes remaining until halftime with an unassisted score in giving Manhattan a 2-1 advantage.

Jake Weinman quickly tied it up just under a minute later with his second goal of the half to make it a 2-2 game at the break.

After halftime, the Red Foxes rattled off four-straight goals in taking what would prove to be an insurmountable four-goal advantage.

Notes
* Krebs recorded a career-high .739 save percentage while picking up four ground balls.

* DeMuro registered a career-high six ground balls

* Manhattan did not allow a goal on three Marist man-up opportunities and has now killed off 17-of-20 (.850) penalties on the year.

* The Jaspers were 23-for-24 on clears while the Red Foxes were 14-for-14.

* For his career, Giarratana has 27 multi-goal games, 94 goals and 149 points.

* On the year, Giarratana has a team-high 11 goals while junior Brandon Grinnell (Wakefield, MA / Wakefield Memorial), Hanson and sophomore Sean MacKinney (Martinsville, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan) all have 10 scores.

* The Green & White have had seven of its nine games decided by three goals or less, including four by one score. 

* Jake Macgregor earned the win, making eight saves between the pipes.
