Jersey City, NJ - Manhattan held Saint Peter's to eight points in the fourth quarter to come away with a convincing 62-44 win over the Peacocks on Saturday, February 9 at the Yanitelli Center.
The Jaspers improve to 7-15 and 5-6 in the MAAC, while Saint Peter's falls to 6-16 on the year and 1-10 in conference.
Highlights:
- Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) scored a career-high 20 points against the Peacocks, adding 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. This marks the sixth time Warley has led the Jaspers in scoring and the 18th time she has earned the team-high in rebounds. She added four steals and four blocks in the game, as well.
- Warley's four blocks against Saint Peter's gave her 72 total for her career, placing her at ninth on Manhattan's all-time blocks list. She sits just behind Jasper great Sheila Tighe, who finished her career with 73 blocks.
- Like Warley, Julie Hoier (Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium) also pulled down 11 boards for the Jaspers. The effort marks a career-high for Hoier, whose previous best was 10 rebounds earned January 24 against Niagara.
- Freshman Sydney Watkins (Wanaque, NJ / Saddle River Day) scored 14 for Manhattan, a scoring-high for her, as well. Watkins hit four threes in the game, and also added three steals.
- Lynette Taitt (Irvington, NJ / Bishop Loughlin) scored 11 for Manhattan, her fifth double-digit scoring game in a row. Taitt is averaging 12.8 points per game over the Jaspers' last five contests. She added six assists on Saturday, tying her career-high.
- The Peacocks' Briyanah Richardson converted a four-point play at the end of the first quarter to give Saint Peter's an 18-16 advantage after the opening 10 minutes.
- In the second quarter, the Jaspers held the Peacocks to just eight points, while scoring 14 of their own, claiming a 30-26 lead at the half.
- Saint Peter's stuck around in the third quarter, with the Jaspers eeking out a 13-10 advantage. D'Aviyon Magazine hit two big three-pointers (out four total for the game) in the quarter to keep the Peacocks within striking distance.
- The difference-maker was the fourth quarter, where Manhattan exploded for 19 points, including eight from Warley. The Jaspers held Saint Peter's to 27.3 percent shooting from the floor for just eight points, including a 1-5 performance from three in the final 10 minutes.
- Manhattan scored 26 points in the paint for the game, compared to just 16 for the Peacocks.
- The Jaspers earned 21 second-chance points, and pulled down 22 offensive rebounds.
- Manhattan's 49 rebounds for the game is the team's best performance on the boards so far this season.
