Riverdale, NY - Senior
Parker Giarratana (Delray, FL / Boca Raton Community) and sophomore
Sean MacKinney (Martinsville, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan) each scored two goals, but it wasn't enough as Manhattan dropped a 13-5 decision to Lafayette in non-conference action at Gaelic Park.
In defeat, the Jaspers fall to 1-2 while the Leopards move to 3-1.
Sophomore
Justin Malpica (Glen Head, NY / Long Island Lutheran) opened the scoring with a strike just 24 seconds into the match, off a pass from MacKinney.
After Lafayette answered, Giarratana blasted home a shot from the left side with the shot clock expiring in staking Manhattan to a 2-1 lead with 10:07 remaining in the first period.
Unfortunately, the visitors would respond with an 8-1 run before Giarratana beat the first-half buzzer off a feed from junior
Kelson Borisenko (Winnepeg, Manitoba / Hill Academy), in trimming the deficit to 9-4 at the break.
MacKinney would provide the final Jasper goal of the evening off a
Luke Hanson (Jr., Middletown, NY / Minisink Valley) feed in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore
Brendan Krebs (East Williston, NY / Chaminade) made 12 saves with three ground balls in the cage.
George Enman scored four first-half goals to lead the way for Lafayette while Gabe Smithline was 13-for-20 from the faceoff X, with Ryan Ness collecting the win after making five saves.
Manhattan will open up MAAC play at Gaelic Park against league newcomer St. Bonaventure on Saturday, February 23 with opening faceoff slated for 1:00 pm.
