Bronx, NY - Senior
Tyler Reynolds' (Syracuse, NY / Harcum College) corner triple with 4.2 seconds to play lifted Manhattan to a rousing 54-53 come-from-behind overtime at Fordham in the 112th edition of the 'Battle of the Bronx.'
The Jaspers would hold firm on the ensuing possession in moving to 4-3 on the year, with the Rams falling to 5-3.
Sophomore
Elijah Buchanan (Bronx, NY / Woodstock Academy (CT)) scored a career-high 15 points while pulling down seven rebounds to earn 'Battle of the Bronx' MVP honors.
Late in the second half, Erten Gazi hit a three pointer with 6:59 remaining to give Fordham a what appeared to be an insurmountable 39-28 lead.
However, Reynolds answered with back-to-back three pointers, while foreshadowing his eventual late-game heroics, and Buchanan hit a layup off a steal to trim the deficit to 39-36 with 4:52 remaining.
With the Ram advantage back to out to seven with 3:21 to play, Manhattan was again tasked with battling back.
Buchanan responded with a free throw and sophomore
Samir Stewart (Fort Lauderdale, FL / American Heritage) canned two huge three pointers to tie it up at 43-43 with less than a minute remaining.
Manhattan would have a pair of opportunities to win it in regulation, but was unable to convert and an extra five minutes was needed to decide the outcome.
Fordham controlled most of overtime and held a 53-49 lead with 49 seconds to play, when the Jaspers took over.
Sophomore
Christian Hinckson (Queens, NY / Tilton School (NH)) corralled an offensive rebound off a block and hit a layup. The Rams then misfired on a pair of three throw attempts and Hinckson found Reynolds in the corner for what would prove to be the game-winner.
Senior
Pauly Paulicap (Elmont, NY / Harcum College) collected his seventh career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds and Stewart hit for 12 points to join Buchanan as the Jaspers in double-figures. On the defensive end, Hinckson pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds with three steals and a block, while adding four points and a career-high matching four assists.
Gazi had 16 points and Portley 15 to lead the way for Fordham.
