Manhattan moves to 2-5 on the season, while Fordham improves to 4-5.
Highlights:
- Emily LaPointe (Staten Island, NY / Staten Island Academy) led the Jasper offense with 13 points, shooting 4-9 from the field and 2-3 from three, while adding four rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block on the night. It's the fourth time this season the freshman guard has scored in double-figures and the third time she has led Manhattan in scoring.
- Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds, her second double-figure rebounding performance of the season.
- Down 15-4 after the opening 10 minutes, Manhattan surged back in the second, shooting 42.9 percent in the quarter and holding Fordham to 21.1 percent from the field. The Jaspers outscored the Rams 14-9 in the second to get within six at the halftime break.
- With 5:43 to play in the third, Manhattan went on a 13-5 run sparked by seven points from Gabby Cajou (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland). Cajou, who would finish with nine points for Manhattan, gave the Jaspers a 36-35 lead, their first of the game, with a steal and fast-break lay-up with 1:26 to go in the third. Manhattan would head into the final 10 down 38-36.
- Poor shooting hampered the Jaspers in the fourth, going just 2-15 from the field. Though Manhattan forced four Fordham turnovers in the final stanza, the Jaspers allowed 17 rebounds for the Rams, including 11 on the defensive glass, limiting Manhattan's opportunities.
- However, Manhattan kept within reach all quarter, cutting the Fordham lead to two with 1:29 to go when Warley, the 2019 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, earned a steal, made the fast-break lay-up and drew the Fordham foul. But it would be the last points Manhattan would score in the game.
- Fordham earned a 54-38 rebounding advantage over the Jaspers, marking the most rebounds pulled down by a Manhattan opponent this season. On the other end, Fordham's 51 points were the lowest scored by a Jasper opponent this year.
- Manhattan's seven turnovers were the fewest committed by the team over the Jaspers' seven games this season.
- Bre Cavanaugh led all scorers with 21 points, while adding a game-high 12 rebounds. Cavanaugh was named MVP of the Battle of the Bronx, and was awarded the Doc Johnson Trophy in an on-court ceremony after the game.
After a week off, Manhattan will return to the court Friday, December 13 to host Army at 7:00 pm.
