Hempstead, NY - Sophomore
Tykei Greene (Queens, NY / Long Island Lutheran) scored a career-high 25 points, but it wasn't enough as Manhattan dropped a hard-fought 63-51 decision to Hofstra.
Greene was 10-of-17 from the floor and 5-of-5 from long range as his 25-point performance led both teams.
Senior
Pauly Paulicap (Elmont, NY / Harcum College) joined Greene in double-figures with 13 points to go along with seven rebounds and one huge block.
The Jaspers came roaring out of the gates on offense, connecting on four of their first six shots in opening up an early 9-6 advantage on the strength of six points from Paulicap.
Later in the stanza with the visitors clinging to a two-point advantage following another Paulicap layup, the Pride scored 11-straight points in taking 27-18 lead with 4:48 until halftime.
Greene briefly answered with a step-back jumper and his third triple of the day to make it a four-point game.
Unfortunately, Hofstra would respond with 10-2 half-ending spurt in opening up a 37-25 advantage at the break.
Down but not out, Manhattan began the second half with a 12-4 run to trim the deficit to 41-37 with 13:50 remaining following a
Christian Hinckson (So., Queens, NY / Tilton School (NH)) three pointer.
The Pride would counter with nine-straight points to push the advantage out to 50-37 with 7:51 remaining following an Isaac Kante layup.
Greene then answered for Manhattan with 10 of the next 15 points, highlighted by back-to-back triple to make it a a 55-47 game at the final timeout (3:21).Â
However, that would be as close as the Jaspers would get it as Hofstra held on for the hard-fought 63-51 victory.
Desure Buie and Eli Pemberton each had 19 points, five rebounds and four assists to pace the Pride, while Kante finished with 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
