Manhattan To Open MAAC Tournament Play At Marist

Poughkeepsie, NY – Making its second conference tournament appearance in three seasons, the fifth-seeded Manhattan Jaspers (6-9-1) will travel to fourth-seeded Marist Red Foxes (9-8) for the first round of the 2019 MAAC Championship on Sunday, November 10 at 6:00 pm.

Follow Along: Marist will live stream the game on ESPN+, with Connor Giblin on the call.

Manhattan's MAAC Tournament History: Since 2007, Manhattan has qualified for the MAAC tournament five times (2017, 2015, 2013, 2011, 2007) ... The highest the Jaspers have been seeded is fourth, which happened in both 2017 and 2013 ... The last time out in 2017, Manhattan hosted a playoff game at Gaelic Park for the first time in program history, falling 1-0 to Quinnipiac ... The program's last win in the MAAC tournament came in 2015, when the Jaspers defeated Saint Peter's 1-0 in Orlando. Manhattan has twice advanced to the championship game, losing in the finals in both 2011 and 1994. In 2011, the Jaspers knocked off the two and three seeds before falling to Fairfield in the Championship game.

Rematch: Manhattan fell to Marist 3-2 in the regular season meeting between on October 19. The Jaspers scored twice in under 80 seconds on goals from junior Berti Fourrier and senior Tristan Doran to take a 2-1 lead with 16 minutes remaining. Unfortunately, the Red Foxes tied up the match in the 80th minute and Justin Jamie scored the game winner with just six seconds.

Series History: Since 1993, Marist leads the series 16-10-2. The Red Foxes captured last year's meeting 2-1 in Poughkeepsie.

Party Like It Is 1999: The two teams have not met in the conference tournament since Manhattan posted a 1-0 win at the 1999 MAAC Championship.

Last Time Out: The Jaspers played Siena to a scoreless draw on Wednesday, November 6 as senior Marcellin Gohier notched his school-record bettering 17th career clean sheet, which was also the first draw for the Green & White since the 2017 regular season finale. It also marked the first time he has notched back-to-back shutouts this year.

2019 Recap: Manhattan rallied from a strong and challenging non-conference schedule that saw the Jaspers start 0-5 against three opponents ranked in the Top 25 in the country, to go 6-4-1 in their final 11 games, including 5-4-1 in MAAC play.

Manhattan had four different players win weekly MAAC awards: Gohier (2x Defensive Player of the Week), senior Adrien Awana (Defensive Player of the Week), freshman Hunter Kochiss (Co-Rookie of the Week) and Fourrier (MAAC Offensive Player of the Week).

Fourrier leads the team in goals (5), assists (3) and points (13). Brandon Joseph-Buadi has come on strong as of late for Manhattan scoring three goals in their last four games. Gohier has started 14 games in net for the Jaspers, recording four shutouts, stopping 72.6 percent of shots he has faced against a 1.37 GAA.

Senior Sendoff: Manhattan's roster features nine seniors, including multiple former All-MAAC selections (Gohier 2017 & 2018, Awana 2018), who are looking to extend their careers beyond Sunday. All nine seniors have played at least 590 minutes this season, and four have played over 1,000 minutes in 2019.

Five Is Lucky?: Last season, fifth seeded Rider won three games en route to the MAAC championship and a berth in the NCAA tournament.

Getting It Done In The Classroom: Awana and Gohier were each recently named to the 2019 Academic All-District® Men's Soccer Team, as selected by CoSIDA.
