Jaspers Gear Up for Crosstown Tournament

Manhattan volleyball kicks-off the 2018 Labor Day weekend at the Crosstown Tournament in Pennsylvania. The Jaspers begin competition Friday, August 31 at Lafayette in Easton, PA, before traveling to Bethlehem, PA on Saturday for matches against Lehigh and Coppin State. 

Game Notes:
  • Manhattan (0-4) is looking for its first win of the season going into Friday's match. Lafayette is also winless on the season, falling to Duquesne (3-0) and Saint Peter's (3-1) so far this year. 
  • The Jaspers have relied heavily this season on the play of newcomers Vivian Donovan (Newport Beach, CA / Newport Harbor) and Shruti Mangipudi (San Ramon, CA / Dougherty Valley). Donovan leads the team in kills with 15, while Mangipudi is the team's top assist-getter at 52. Lafayette has featured four freshmen in the starting lineup for each of its first two contests. Kelly Austin, Grace Tulevech, Madi Wahrmund and Leanna Deegan have all made consecutive starts.
  • Senior Casey Monroe (Riverview, FL / Riverview) and sophomore Erin Hoener (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) have also earned double-digit kills this season for Manhattan; Monroe has earned 13, while Hoener has nabbed 12.  
  • Senior libero Alyssa Rehrer (Lorton, VA / South County) continues to lead the Jaspers with 59 digs this season, good for nearly five per set played. 
  • Lehigh (2-0) junior Ana Spangenberg enters the weekend leading the Patriot League in kill percentage with 4.29, while senior Megan Polak leads the Mountain Hawks with 77 assists, averaging 11 assists per game.
  • Coppin State (1-3) is fourth in the MEAC in team hitting percentage, with .145 while allowing the fewest digs in the conference (11.17). Asia Stennis boosted the Eagles to a sweep of Saint Peter's on Wednesday, with 17 kills and 12 digs - her fourth career double-double.
