Men's Discus Final Results

Eugene, OR -
It was the end of a long and successful journey June 8, as Manhattan track and field's Ire Bozovicar (Potoki, Slovenia / Gimazija Jesenice) competed in the men's discus throw at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Placing 11th in his flight and 22nd overall, the senior field performer finishes the 2018 outdoor season as one of the country's top discus throwers, and was named an All-America honorable mention.

After recording a foul on his first throw, Bozovicar, who competed first in the first of two flights, hit a distance of 51.46 meters in his second round, his best of the day. The top nine athletes in each flight advanced to the final round, with Bozovicar missing out by just over four meters. The leader going into the final three rounds was Memphis' Luke Vaughn, who hit 60.41 meters.

Bozovicar qualified for the discus throw national championship (one of just 24 athletes in the country to do so) after finishing 12th at the NCAA East Regionals on Friday, May 25 in Tampa, FL. His qualifying distance of 53.81 meters was approximately one meter under his collegiate personal best of 54.83 meters, recorded at the 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where he won gold. He was one of just four MAAC athletes to qualify for nationals.

This season, Bozovicar also won the IC4A discus throw championship, as well as the Metropolitan championship in the event. He placed first in the discus at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational and in Princeton's Sam Howell Invitational earlier this year.

Bozovicar graduated from Manhattan College this past May with a degree in exercise science.
