Manhattan men's track and field sits in second place overall after the first day of competition at the 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Rider University. The women's team sits in fifth after the full day of competition. 

The Jasper men marked high in several field events Saturday. Senior Love Litzell (Ostersund, Sweden / Wargentinskolan) earned gold in the hammer throw with a toss of 63.05 meters. In the pole vault, freshman Eduard Winner (Tel Aviv, Israel) took gold with a mark of 5.12 meters, while freshman Colton Weber (St. Charles, IL / St. Charles) earned a bronze medal in the event with a mark of 4.40.

On the track, junior Chad Maier (Melville, NY / Walt Whitman) won the bronze in the men's 10,000-meter race, finishing in 30:54.95.

MAAC track and field action continues Sunday with more field events and track finals. Senior Kelly Gorman (South Amboy, NJ / Cardinal McCarrick) will compete for the women's 800-meter championship after recording the top qualifying time of 2:13.37 on Saturday. Junior Jasmine Davis (Ronkonoma, NY / Central Islip) earned the second qualifying time in the 400-meter dash and will also compete in the finals on Sunday.

Senior Paige Chapman (Abingdon, MD / Harford Technical) will compete in the women's 200-meter finals after qualifying on Saturday. Chapman and teammate Niasia Boone (Morrisville, PA / Pennsbury) will compete in the 100-meter dash, as well. Kathleen Cibuls (Blue Point, NY / Bayport-Blue Point) will run in the women's 400-meter hurdles on Sunday, as well as the 100-meter hurdles. Junior Erin Spadaccini (Wilmington, DE / Padua Academy) qualified for the women's 1,500-meter race. 

On the men's side, Wilmer Jovel-Reyes (Closter, NY / Northern Valley Regional) will compete in the 400-meter hurdles. Will Stallings (Sleepy Hollow, NY / Sleepy Hollow) will compete in the men's 200-meter finals, and freshman Brandon Boggs (Lumberton, NJ / Rancocas Valley Regional) will run in the 100-meter dash. Winner and teammate Sean Mirando (Oakhurst, NJ / Ocean Township) will race in the 110-meter hurdles.
