Jaspers Earn Top-30 Finishes at NCAA Prelims

Day One Results

Tampa, FL -
Manhattan track and field's Love Litzell (Ostersund, Sweden / Wargentinskolan) and Eduard Winner (Tel Aviv, Israel) each earned top 30 performances in their respective field events at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Region preliminaries on Thursday, May 24. The pair are the first of five Jaspers to compete at the regionals this week, with the top 12 performers moving on to the national championship in Eugene, OR.

Litzell, a senior, competed in the men's hammer throw, hitting a distance of 60.99 meters and finishing in 30th overall in the competition. The reigning Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) champion in the event, he earned a top 30 seed after-hitting a mark of 63.92 meters at the IC4A Championships, his best performance of the 2018 outdoor season.

Litzell missed qualifying for nationals by less than six meters, but earned the highest MAAC finish in the event, besting Timothy Wilson of Monmouth, who posted a distance of 55.58 meters. Last year, Litzell placed 32nd in the hammer throw at the NCAA preliminaries, finishing with a distance of 60.22 meters.

In the men's pole vault, Winner finished 27th overall with a height of 5.00 meters. Like Litzell, he is also the reigning MAAC champion in the event, earning a 35th-place seed in the East Regional when he hit a 5.12 pole vault to win MAAC gold earlier this month. Winner was the only MAAC pole vaulter competing in the NCAA prelims on Thursday. He missed qualifying for nationals by 0.25 meters.

Competition will continue Friday for the Jaspers as Ire Bozovicar (Potoki, Slovenia / Gimazija Jesenice) competes in the discus throw starting at 8:45 a.m. On Saturday, Brenton Foster (Townsville, Australia / William Ross) will compete in the high jump at 2 p.m., while teammate Ryan Addlesberger (Cinnaminson, NJ / Cinnaminson) will compete in the shot put at 5:30 p.m. Events can be watched live via FloTrack, or followed via live stats from the NCAA
