Piscataway, NJ - Manhattan track and field combined for 11 top five finishes on day one of the 2018 Metropolitan Championships at Rutgers University. With five events scored, men's track and field sits in second place after the first day of competition, while the women's team ends the day ranked third.
Senior Love Litzell (Ostersund, Sweden / Wargentinskolan) placed second in the men's hammer throw, hitting a distance of 59.45 meters. In the women's event, freshman Alexandra Preckajlo (Ocean, NJ / St. Rose) finished fifth, hitting a distance of 40.18 meters.
Elizabeth Reid (Mt. Laurel, NJ / Merrimack College) won second in the women's pole vault, jumping a height of 2.56 meters. Eduard Winner (Tel Aviv, Israel) took home third in the event, jumping 4.70 meters.
Freshman Lasma Padedze (Ogre, Latvia / Ogre Secondary School No. 1) earned fourth place in the women's javelin, throwing a distance of 39.07 meters, a personal best. Manhattan placed fourth and fifth in the men's javelin, with Timothy Iannuzzo (East Brunswick, NJ / St. Joseph) came in at 58.31 meters, another personal best for the Jaspers, and Anthony Yanni (Brooklyn, NY / Xavier) hit 51.33 meters.
On the track, senior Drew Reda (Matawan, NJ / Quinnipiac) placed third in the 10,000-meter race, finishing in a time of 34:35.43. Teammate Katelyn Huggard (Pawling, NY / Pawling) finished fifth in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time 12:14.05. In the men's steeplechase, the Jaspers had third- and fourth-place finishers in Jack Consolini (Darien, CT / Darien) and Rory Grady (Warwick, NY / Warwick Valley). Consolini finished the race in 10:44.40, while Grady finished in 10:59.98.
Manhattan will continue competition on Saturday, with the second half of the field and track events, as well as the completion of the heptathlon and decathlon events.
