Merion Station, PA - Saint Joseph's rallied for a 6-3 win over Manhattan in non-conference action at Smithson Field.
Despite the loss, the Jaspers claimed their third-straight series yesterday and are 7-10 while the Hawks improve to 8-8.
Saint Joseph's opened the scoring with a first-inning run before Manhattan took the lead with a two-out rally in the third.
The Hawks quickly got the first two outs before senior Adam Genners (Jacksonville, FL / Stanton College Prep) singled and Will Trochiano (Fr., Morganville, NJ / Marlboro) doubled. Graduate student Matt Forlow (Cold Spring, NY / Haldane) followed with a two-run double to plate Genners and Trochiano in giving the Jaspers a 2-1 lead. Junior Fabian Pena (Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) extended the visitors' advantage out to 3-1 with the third-straight double of the frame to bring around Forlow.
After yielding a first-inning run, junior RHP Joe DiNizio (Middlesex, NJ / Middlesex) settled down and would work four scoreless frames before leaving after firing 5.0 strong innings of five-hit ball with four strikeouts.
Saint Joseph's would reclaim the lead in the bottom of the seventh with five runs while batting around in taking a 6-3 lead.
Manhattan would mount another two-out rally in the eighth as Pena and junior Richie Barrella (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) each singled but would be left stranded.
Barrella and Pena each had two hits to pace an eight-hit Jasper attack while Trochiano reached base safely for the 17th-straight game to start his collegiate career.
James McConnon and Marc Giacalone each had three hits to lead the way for a Hawk unit that rapped out 10 hits.
RHP Justin Aungst earneed the win, yielding three runs on six hits with six strikeouts over 7.0 innings.
