DeLand, FL - With 13 hits against Holy Cross on day two of the Stetson Invitational on Saturday, March 10, the Manhattan Jaspers posted a convincing 13-2 win and continued to build on to their current win streak, now at seven games.
Senior Kat Prevo (San Diego, CA / Our Lady of Peace) went 1-1 on the day, hitting a double that resulted in three RBIs for Manhattan. Senior Victoria Ross (Bloomfield, NJ / Bloomfield) went 2-4, adding two RBIs, while senior Shannon Puthe (Mullica Hill, NJ / Saint Joseph's) went 3-3 on the day, including a double.
The Jaspers (7-3) broke out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first, letting up one run to Holy Cross (2-10) in the bottom of the inning. Manhattan would strike again in the top of the third, when freshman Daniela Chiorazzi hit a sacrifice fly to score Christine Gebhardt (Middletown, NJ / Middletown North).
The Jaspers would score eight more runs in the game, but had their hottest inning in the top of the seventh. Pinch hitting for Puthe, Gabriella Fredette (Hackensack, NJ / Immaculate Conception) singled up the middle to drive in a run. Three batters later, Prevo went in to hit for Chiorazzi, doubling to right center to drive in three more runs.
Sophomore Kayla McDermott (Garnerville, NY / North Rockland) took the win for the Jaspers, her second of the season. In four innings, she allowed seven hits by 19 batters faced. Stephanie Kristo (San Jose, CA / Archbishop Mitty) earned the save, allowing no hits in three innings pitched.
