Day 2 Results | Day 3 Results | Men's Records | Women's Records

Buffalo, NY – Women's senior Alexandra Hutzler (Miller Place, NY / Miller Place) and men's freshman Andre van Huyssteen (Paarl, South Africa / Paarl Boys) are rewriting the Manhattan record books at the 2018 MAAC Championships.

On the third day of the meet on Friday, Hutzler advanced to the 'A' final in both the 100-yard Butterfly and the 100-yard Breaststroke. She proceeded to smash her own school records in both events, swimming in 57.85 seconds and 1:06.08, respectively. She wound up placing fifth in the 100 Fly and seventh in the 100 Breast.

The Long Islander helped shatter the Jaspers' three year-old record in the 400-yard Medley relay. Alongside juniors Megan Pagano (LaGrangeville, NY / Arlington) and Klaudia Nagrabska (Belmont, MA / Belmont) as well as sophomore Kali Nembach, the quartet finished in 3:58.73 to set the new standard and earn seventh place.

Meanwhile, van Huyssteen, who set the pace in the 200-yard Freestyle back on the opening night of the meet, improved each time in the pool. He beat his own record in the preliminaries, then topped it again in the 'A' final with a time of 1:39.75 to place fifth.

Back on Day Two on Thursday, Hutzler and van Huyssteen were still setting records. Hutzler was the top finisher in the 200-yard IM 'B' final thanks to a time of 2:08.05, improving on her school-best time. Van Huyssteen's 1:49.96 mark also shattered a school record and gave him the bronze in the 'A' final.

Junior Evan Battisti (East Meadow, NY / East Meadow) also broke a school record in the 500-yard Freestyle on Thursday. He swam in 4:39.27 and was third in the 'B' final.

The six total new records from the past two days have brought Manhattan's total to ten in the MAAC Championships. The Jaspers smashed 12 school records in last year's conference meet.

With one day remaining, the women sit in ninth place with 132 points, while the men are tenth with 115 points. Day Four preliminaries begin on Saturday, February 17 at 10:00 am, with the finals tabbed for 6:00 pm.
