The loss moves the Jaspers to 2-2 in the conference and 9-3 overall. The Bobcats notch their fifth consecutive win to go to 3-0 in MAAC play and 5-4-1 overall.
The two teams were a mere 1:22 from the end of the second overtime, but Quinnipiac went on the attack. Manhattan goalkeeper Marcellin Gohier (Nantes, France / CENS) made an initial stop on Rashawn Dally, but Whelan collected the rebound and sent it home to end the game. The goal was Whelan's fifth of the season.
The Jaspers were trailing 1-0 in the second half in only the third game in which they've trailed all season. In the 77th minute, Quinnipiac knocked home an own goal to tie the game at one.
Manhattan looks to regroup when it hosts Rider, who is 3-0 in the MAAC, on Wednesday, October 10 at Gaelic Park. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 pm.
