Joseph-Buadi, Kennedy Power Jaspers Past Saints

Riverdale, NY - Sophomore forward Brandon Joseph-Buadi (Brighton, England / Woodard) broke a scoreless ballgame in the 57th minute, and sophomore goalkeeper Micheal Kennedy (Yonkers, NY / Fordham Prep) made three saves as Manhattan bounced back to defeat Siena 1-0 on Wednesday evening at Gaelic Park.

The Jaspers improve their record to 2-1 in MAAC play and 9-2 overall, while Siena stumbles to 2-1 against conference foes and 3-5-3 in 2018.

With almost 12 minutes gone by in the second half, sophomore forward Berti Fourrier (Marseille, France / IFC Marseille) gained possession in the middle and sent the ball to Joseph-Buadi. The sophomore deked right and entered the box, firing a strike past Saints netminder Greg Monroe for the game's only goal.

Kennedy earned first career win in his first career start, making a couple of leaping saves to deny Siena in the first and second half. His three stops are a career-high after he collected two against Saint Peter's.

Manhattan looks to build another winning streak when they face off against Quinnipiac on Saturday, October 6 at 2:00 pm in a rematch of last year's MAAC Quarterfinal battle.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Fourrier recorded his team- and conference-leading fifth assist of the season.
  • Manhattan is 8-0 on the year when Fourrier notches a point.
  • Joseph-Buadi and Fourrier are now tied for the team lead with 11 points.
  • With the second-half goal, the Jaspers have scored 15 of their 19 tallies after halftime (78 percent).

  • For the second straight season, a Manhattan goalie has not allowed a goal in his first career start. Gohier did the same in 2017 against Sacred Heart.

FIRST HALF
  • Junior captain Tristan Doran (Jupiter, FL / Benjamin) had a solid defensive play in the eighth minute, running down a Siena forward for 50 yards to force him out of bounds for a goal kick.
  • In the 18th minute, junior midfielder Milan Devuyst (Ostend, Belgium / ODU) uncorked the first shot of the night, though a Siena defender blocked it.
  • Fourrier poked a 25-yard free kick from the middle into the hands of Monroe in the 24th minute, the first save for either side.
  • As the Saints tried to counter a minute later, freshman midfielder Thomas Hitchins (Raleigh, NC / Wakefield) blocked a cross and sliced a skilled clear that curved along the right sideline.
  • Doran fed a through-ball into the box for junior forward Noah Amissah (London, England / Orleans Park), but the pair couldn't connect in the 31st minute.

SECOND HALF

  • Kennedy had another leaping save off a Siena corner kick as Conor McGlynn sent a header high. The Yonkers native tapped it over the crossbar, and Manhattan cleared the ensuing corner.
