Manhattan Hosts Canisius On Senior Day

Riverdale, NY – Manhattan (11-5 | 4-4 MAAC) continues to fight for a playoff spot with less than a week remaining in the 2018 regular season as it stages Senior Day against Canisius (4-8-2 | 2-5-1 MAAC) in its final home game on Saturday, October 27 at 6:00 pm.

The Jasper Sports Network will air the game beginning at 5:55 pm. Live statistics will also be provided courtesy of the athletic department.

The Senior Class
  • The Jaspers will honor five members of its senior class on Saturday: goalkeeper Connor Hayes, midfielder Ryan Shields, defender Eduardo Avalos, defender Jean-Baptiste Tamas-Leloup and forward Lucas Da Silva.
  • Hayes is a four-year member of Manhattan soccer, earning his first-career win on October 8, 2016 against Saint Peter's. He was an All-MAAC Academic selection that same year.
  • Shields overcame an injury during his freshman year to make the All-MAAC rookie squad in 2016. After a career-best two goals and three assists in 2017, he earned the 2018 PFL Character Scholarship from the Lutzie 43 Foundation.
  • Avalos arrived to Manhattan before the 2017 slate, making his debut on September 13, 2017 in a 7-0 victory against VMI.
  • Tamas-Leloup arrived in 2017 and started 30 of his 31 games up to this point. He helped the Jaspers allow a program-low 16 goals in 2017.
  • Da Silva received All-MAAC Second Team honors in his first year in the Green and White, netting eight goals and two assists. Manhattan is 6-0-1 in games where he has scored.

The Standings So Far
  • With the final Saturday of the season coming up, the bottom four seeds in the MAAC have yet to clinch a spot in the playoffs.
  • Manhattan is currently in the sixth spot and tied with Rider at 12 points, though the Jaspers have the tiebreaker thanks to the 1-0, overtime victory over the Broncs back on October 10.
  • Siena lurks behind the two with nine points in the eighth spot. The Saints take on the Broncs on Saturday.

Personal Benchmarks

  • Sophomore Brandon-Joseph-Buadi eclipsed his personal record in goals and points earlier this year at five and 12, respectively.
  • After a three-goal, seven-point campaign last year, fifth-year senior Troy Carrington needs one more statistic to reach those records again.
  • Senior Lucas Da Silva is one helper shy of setting a new standard.
  • Goalkeeper Marcellin Gohier is four saves away from 100 in his career but also 10 stops from a season-best. He has surpassed his minutes played from last season with 1,344:01 minutes in 2018.

Scouting Report: Canisius
  • The preseason conference-favorite Golden Griffins enter Saturday's duel with a 2-5-1 record, most recently falling at Siena 2-0 on October 24.
  • Canisius is 3-5-1 away from Buffalo, NY in 2018.
  • Troy Brady and Filippo Tamburini lead the charge in the Golden Griffins' attack, with Brady tops on the team at six goals and 15 points on his resume while Tamburini has 11 points on the docket.
  • In MAAC play, goalie Bryce Tramuta's 5.33 saves per game is tied for the highest mark in the conference.
  • Saturday marks the 28th battle all-time between Manhattan and Canisius, with the Golden Griffins leadring the series 12-11-4.
  • The Jaspers vie for their first win against Canisius since 2011 and its first victory over them in the Bronx in 10 seasons.
