Fajardo, Distance Runners Break Records This Weekend

Terrier Classic Results | Columbia Challenge Results

Boston, MA -
Junior distance runner Lisa Fajardo (Brooklyn, NY / Bishop Kearney) has set a new Manhattan College record in the 3,000-meter indoor race, besting the previous record time by nearly four seconds.

At the annual Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic held January 26-27, Fajardo recorded a time of 9:39.0, placing ninth overall in the race and finishing fourth among collegiate competitors. The new school record shatters the 9:43.07 time set 30 years ago by Cheryl Simoni at the 1988 ECAC Championships.

In a weekend of broken records, Fajardo was also part of Manhattan's distance medley relay team that posted 11:50.06 in the event, 0.67 seconds quicker than the previous record set by Manhattan track and field at the 1992 ECAC Championships. Fajardo competed with teammates Erin Spadacinni (Wilmington, DE / Padua Academy), Mikeisha Kelly (Albany, NY / Colonie Central) and Kelly Gorman (South Amboy, NJ / Cardinal McCarrick). The team came in fourth overall and qualified for the ECAC Championships to be held March 2-4 in Boston.

Back in New York, Manhattan's field performers took on the Columbia Challenge held at the Armory in Washington Heights. Senior Charlene Pohl (Bisingen, Germany / Gymnasium Balingen) took fifth overall in the pentathlon with a score of 3,484 points. Pohl came in first in the long jump, hitting 5.7 meters and qualifying for the ECAC Championships. She grabbed second in two events, 60-meter hurdles (9.11) and the 800-meter race (2:28.82). Pohl fell to seventh in the high jump (1.57 meters) and ninth in the shot put (8.46 meters).

On the men's side, junior Ryan Addlesberger (Cinnaminson, NJ / Cinnaminson) took sixth in the shot put, posting a season-best 16.76-meter distance. Manhattan's most recent ATAX male student-athlete of the week, Addlesberger and the men's indoor track team currently rank 57th in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association weekly national poll, coming in 15th in the northeast region.
