With the victory, the Jaspers improve to 2-1 for the first time since the 2001 season with the Pioneers falling to 0-3.

Manhattan owned possession for most of the night before a strange play briefly shifted the momentum. Sophomore Marcellin Gohier (Pouance, France / CENS), who was making his first Jasper start, punched the ball away in the 68th minute but was unaware that he had left the box and thus given a red card. On the ensuing play, junior Connor Hayes (El Dorado Hills, CA / Oak Ridge) made a diving save on a free kick to keep Sacred Heart off the board.

After the defensive stop, Manhattan would threaten to again dent the scoreboard in the 72nd minute but sophomore Lorenzo Froehle's (Anchorage, AK / Bartlett) shot was blocked by his own teammate. In the 78th minute, senior Troy Carrington (Verona, NJ / Syracuse) blasted a shot that was narrowly deflected by a diving Robert Strain.

Over the final 11-plus minutes, Sacred Heart would register three more shots but was unable to get any of them on goal.
