Volleyball Drops Heartbreaker On Day One Of Leatherneck Invite

Manhattan dropped a five-set heartbreaker to Western Illinois after opening the Leatherneck Invitational with a three-set loss to Chicago State.

On the day, freshman Erin Hoener (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) registered 1.75 kills per set while hitting at a .458 clip and adding a team-high eight blocks.

Sophomore Sandra Lozanova (Pernik, Bulgaria / Fresno State) notched a team-leading 3.00 kills per set while sophomore Kenza Hall (Oakland, CA / Tennessee State) and junior Casey Monroe (Riverview, FL / Riverview) each added five blocks, apiece.

Junior Alyssa Rehrer (Lofton, VA / South County) registered 4.62 digs per set and junior Zoe Lindsey 7.0 assists per set to round out the top statistical performers for Manhattan. 

WIU RECAP:
* The Lumberjacks defeated the Jaspers by scores of 18-25, 25-19, 17-25, 25-22, 10-15.
* Playing in its second match of the day, Manhattan fought hard with their first set wins of the year.
* Hoener and Lozanova each had a team-high nine kills.
* Rehrer notched a match-high 21 digs.
* The Jaspers hit .462 in their set-two win while posting a .730 sideout percentage in set four.

CHICAGO STATE RECAP:
* Lora Sarich made her debut as Head Coach of Manhattan..
* The Cougars won by scores of 25-16, 25-22, 25-23.
* Lozanova had a team-high six kills.
