More Jaspers Post ECAC/IC4A Qualifying Marks

Results: Sam Howell | Spec Towns

PRINCETON, NJ – The Manhattan College men's and women's outdoor track & field teams took part in a pair of meets on Saturday afternoon.  The Jaspers sent a contingent of sprinters and field event athletes to the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton University, while Manhattan also concluded competition at the Spec Towns Invitational from the University of Georgia.  At both meets, the Jaspers enjoyed solid performances.

Manhattan's female sprinters achieved two ECAC qualifying standards at the Sam Howell Invitational.  Paige Chapman (Abingdon, MD) posted a time of 12.05 seconds to place fourth in the 100 meters, while Kathy Cadet (Endicott, NY), running from lane one, placed third in the 400 meter hurdles with an ECAC-qualifying time of 1:02.77.  Marisa Robbins (Goshen, NY) added a win in the women's pole vault with a clearance at 3.85 meters (12 feet, 7½ inches).

Chapman and Cadet also ran on the Jaspers' 4x100 meter relay squad that finished first in 48.23 seconds.  They were joined in the relay by Niasia Boone (Morrisville, PA) and Dayzondra Gonzalez (Monroe, NY).  Individually, Boone placed fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 25.44 seconds.

On the men's side, Dennis Eriksson (Sundsvall, Sweden) led the way with a second-place showing in the long jump.  With a mark of 7.18 m (23'6¾), he achieved the IC4A qualifying standard in the event.  He also placed fifth in the 110 meter hurdles (14.94).  Gustave Menocal (Bronx, NY), meanwhile, took eighth in the discus with a toss of 48.84 m (160'3).

Stefan Hoeller (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany) secured fourth place in the 400 meter hurdles with a 54.37-second clocking, and Sean Mirando (Oakhurst, NJ) made the final of the 110 hurdles, placing eighth in 15.51 seconds.  In addition, the Jaspers took fourth in the 4x400 meter relay, with the team of Mike DeAngelis (Rahway, NJ), JP Merkler (Spring Lake, NJ), Carmine Rosato (Bayville, NJ) and Jonathan Nieves (Yonkers, NY) finishing in 3:26.41.

Meanwhile, on the second day of the Spec Towns Invitational in Athens, GA, Lina Bengtson (Malmo, Sweden) took second in the women's discus with a toss of 47.69 m (156'5).  That effort moved her up on the qualifying list for the NCAA East Preliminary Round.  Ire Bozovicar (Potoki, Slovenia) placed third in the men's discus (51.91 m, 170'4) and ninth in the men's shot put (15.57 m, 51'1), while Fabian Mueller (Amtzell, Germany) was eighth in the men's 100 meters (10.76).

Next weekend, the Jaspers return to action at the annual Metropolitan Outdoor Championships.  Competition at Rutgers University's Bauer Track & Field Complex begins on Friday and concludes on Saturday.
