PHILADELPHIA – The Manhattan College outdoor track & field team was in action at a pair of meets on Saturday. The Jaspers concluded competition at the 123rd Penn Relays from the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field, while also taking part in the College of New Jersey's Lions Invitational.
Manhattan took eighth in the college women's 4x800 meter relay at the Penn Relays. The quartet of Alexa Roda (Staten Island, NY), Erin Spadaccini (Wilmington, DE), Kaitlyn Smith (Effort, PA) and Kelly Gorman (South Amboy, NJ) posted a time of 9:05.71. In the men's college hammer throw, Gustave Menocal (Bronx, NY) finished 21st with a mark of 51.65 meters (169 feet, five inches). Dennis Eriksson (Sundsvall, Sweden), who was a member of the Jaspers school record-setting shuttle hurdles team on Friday, took part in the men's college triple jump on Saturday morning and placed 23rd with a 13.78 m (45'2½) effort.
Another athlete who competed at the Penn Relays on Friday—Kathy Cadet (Endicott, NY) won the 400 meter hurdles at the Lions Invitational on Saturday. She registered a time of 1:02.61. Lisa Fajardo (Brooklyn, NY), meanwhile, placed second in the 1500 meters with a 4:44.17 clocking. Ellinor Persson (Taby, Sweden) and Kathleen Cibuls (Blue Point, NY) went 4-5 in the 100 meter hurdles. Persson notched a time of 14.71 seconds, while Cibuls finished in 14.89 seconds. She also took seventh in the 200 meters (25.82).
In the women's pole vault, Marisa Robbins (Goshen, NY) captured second place with a leap of 3.70 m (12'1½). Cheyenne Lewis (Queens, NY), meanwhile, was sixth in the women's shot put with a mark of 11.62 m (38'1½).
On the men's side, Chris Sandoli (Old Bridge, NJ) and Chris Woodhouse (Staten Island, NY) both cleared 4.25 m (13'11¼) to take third (Sandoli) and fifth (Woodhouse) in the pole vault. Eric Waugh (Wheatley Heights, NY) recorded fifth-place finishes in both the shot put (14.43 m, 47'4¼) and discus (48.44 m, 158'11) to go along with a seventh-place showing in the hammer throw (43.76 m, 143'7). In addition, Timothy Iannuzzo (East Brunswick, NJ) finished fifth in the javelin with a toss of 53.80 m (176'6).
Jack Consolini (Darien, CT) captured second place in the 3000 meter steeplechase, which was held on Friday night, with a time of 10:25.79. Chad Maier (Melville, NY) (15:38.75) and Drew Reda (Matawan, NJ) (15:41.98) went 4-6 in the 5000 meters, while John Dove's (Monroe, NY) time of 1:54.08 in the 800 meters was good for fourth place. Anthony Hall (Mountainville, NY) placed eighth in the 200 (22.59), and Wilmer Jovel (Closter, NY) added an eighth-place showing in the 400 hurdles (56.85).
Next weekend, the Jaspers will take part in the annual Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Outdoor Championships. The competition will be held on Saturday and Sunday at Rider University. Manhattan finished third (women) and fourth (men) at the MAAC Indoor Championships.
