Jaspers Brave Elements at Mark Young Invitational

Results: Mark Young Invitational | Colonial Relays

NEW HAVEN, CT – On a cold, rainy and windy afternoon, the Manhattan College men's and women's outdoor track & field teams took part in the Mark Young Invitational on Saturday.  Despite the conditions, the Jaspers still posted several solid performances at Yale University's Dewitt Cuyler Athletic Complex.

Gustave Menocal (Bronx, NY) won the men's discus with an IC4A-qualifying mark of 49.75 meters (163 feet, three inches).  Daniel Vilajeti (Scarsdale, NY) took second in the men's triple jump (which, along with all of the other jumps, was held indoors because of the weather) with a leap of 13.77 m (45'2¼), and he added a seventh-place showing in the long jump (6.42 m, 21'0¾).  Timothy Iannuzzo (East Brunswick, NJ), meanwhile, finished third in the javelin (50.20 m, 164'8).

Sean Mirando (Oakhurst, NJ), meanwhile, grabbed third place in the 400 meter hurdles (58.69) to go along with a fourth-place showing in the 110 meter hurdles (15.45).  Wilmer Jovel (Closter, NJ) was fourth in the 400 hurdles with a 58.95-second clocking.  In the 400 meters, Akash Patel (Orlando, FL) placed third in 52.58 seconds and Jonathan Nieves (Yonkers, NY) posted a time of 54.36 seconds, which was good for fifth place.

On the women's side, Marisa Robbins (Goshen, NY) achieved the ECAC qualifying standard in the pole vault with a clearance at 3.80 m (12'5½).  Robbins took third in the event, while Dayzondra Gonzalez (Monroe, NY) earned a pair of third-place finishes in the 100 meters and 200 meters.  She registered personal-best times of 12.28 seconds in the 100 and 26.51 seconds in the 200.

Kathleen Cibuls (Blue Point, NY), who placed fifth in the 200 (26.99), finished second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.99 seconds.  Meanwhile, Lisa Fajardo (Brooklyn, NY) secured eighth place in the 1500 meters (4:52.41) and Kim Jelich (Malverne, NY) was eighth in the 400 hurdles (1:17.89).  In the women's javelin, Megan Haugh (Metuchen, NJ) claimed sixth place with a 30.16 m (98'11) effort.

In addition, Manhattan ran the men's 4x800 meter relay on the final day of the Berkeley Reality Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, VA.  The team of John Dove (Monroe, NY), Jan Hoffmann (Tubeingen, Germany), Liam O'Brien (Clifton Park, NY) and Adam Alshoubeki (Monroe, NY) finished 13th overall in a time of 8:01.18.

The Jaspers will split up again next week.  A handful of field event competitors are entered in the Spec Towns Invitational at the University of Georgia, while the rest of the team will head to Princeton for the Sam Howell Invitational.
