Cibuls, Robbins Earn Wins On First Day of Metropolitan Championships

RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan College men's and women's indoor track & field teams hosted the first day of the annual Metropolitan Championships at Draddy Gymnasium on Thursday.  Manhattan earned a pair of first-place finishes in the first two women's events—the pole vault and pentathlon, while Stefan Hoeller (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany) was sitting in second place after day one of the men's heptathlon.

In the women's pentathlon, Kathleen Cibuls (Blue Point, NY) won the 800 meters to capture first place overall with 3557 points.  Oksana Sokolova of Rutgers was second with 3391 points, just eight points ahead of defending champion Charlene Pohl (Bisingen, Germany), who settled for the bronze.

Marisa Robbins (Goshen, NY), meanwhile, earned her second straight Metropolitan title in the women's pole vault with a clearance of 3.70 meters (12 feet, 1½ inches).  Maddie Arndt (Merrimac, MA) was fifth in the event, giving Manhattan 30 total points in the team competition, which is enough for first place overall, heading into Friday.

Hoeller will conclude the heptathlon as a part of Friday's schedule at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.  Competition resumes at 12 p.m. with the women's 5000 meters, as well as several field events.
