West Long Branch, NJ - In battle of MAAC leaders, Monmouth outlasted Manhattan by a 2-1 count on the Great Lawn thanks to a pair of Madie Gibson goals.
The Hawks improve to 9-2-2 and 6-0-0 in the MAAC while the Jaspers have their four-match winning streak snapped in falling to 6-6-1 and 4-2-0 in the league.
Gibson quickly opened the scoring in the fifth minute before Manhattan answered in the 15th minute.
Sophomore Arianna Montefusco (Levittown, NY / General Douglas MacArthur) fed senior Erica Modena (Massapequa, NY / Massapequa), who then found a wide open Emma Saul (Jr., Orchard Park, NY / Orchard Park) for an easy goal.
Gibson would then reclaim the lead in the 44th minute on a free kick from 20 yards out.
The Manhattan offense would only muster three more shots the rest of the way with the Jaspers' best scoring opportunity coming in the 76th minute.
Modena fed freshman Lindsey Healy (Sussex, NJ / Pope John XXIII Regional) on the left side of the goal, but her shot went wide of the goal.
