Riverdale, NY – Junior Ryan Shields (Standish, Wigan, England / Standish Community) provided another game-winning goal as Manhattan toppled Monmouth 1-0 in double overtime at Gaelic Park.
The two teams were locked into a scoreless draw for 105 minutes. As the 106th minute began, junior Callum Carsley (Birmingham, England / Princethorpe College) snuck into the left corner. Dancing along the end line, he flicked a pass into the box. Shields met the ball and one-timed it past Hawks netminder Bobby Edwards for the game's only tally.
Shields registered his second double-overtime goal in the past 10 days. He buried the game-winner against Iona on September 27 that ignited Manhattan's four-game win streak.
Manhattan also received another standout effort in goal from sophomore Marcellin Gohier (Pouance, France / CENS), who corralled four saves while notching his fourth straight shutout.
Gohier was active starting in the 15th minute, when he scooped up a shot from Monmouth's John Antunes. Manhattan's keeper got help from his back line when Carsley snuffed out a Monmouth opportunity with an impressive tackle in the 18th minute. Senior Luke Greaves (Bolton, Lancashire, England / Accrington & Rossendale) headed out a cross three minutes later. Gohier then made a diving save off a free kick with over two minutes left in halftime.
The Jaspers' offense busted out of the second half with three scoring chances in the first five minutes. However, the Hawks blocked three shots and protected a corner kick in that span. Manhattan's last attempt to win in regulation dissipated when freshman Brandon Joseph-Buadi (Shoreham-by-Sea, England / Woodard) launched a shot that went above the crossbar.
Both teams were stonewalled in the first overtime frame. Manhattan senior Jose Meza (Clifton, NJ / Paramus Catholic) fired a left-footed shot 43 seconds into extra time, but the ball slowly rolled into Edwards' mitts. Geoffrey Schaefer went the other way in the 96th minute for Monmouth, but Gohier nabbed his final save of the evening.

- Manhattan's seventh win in 2017 is the most in a single season since 2001. The Jaspers' 4-0-0 start eclipses their best start against MAAC foes from the same year, when they went 3-1 to begin conference play.
- Manhattan has also gone four straight matches without a loss for the first time since 2001, when they went 3-0-1 from September 28 to October 7.
- The Jaspers have won five games at home for the first time since 1999.
- Every Manhattan win has come via a shutout. Their seven shutouts are the most since 1999, when they recorded six in the regular season and one in the MAAC Tournament.
- The Jaspers have not allowed a goal in over 445 minutes. Gohier has been in net for every second of that streak.
- Shields has matched his goal total of two from last year. His seven points this season are the most he's notched in a single season.
- Carsley's assist gives him eight points in 2017, which is third on the team.
- Manhattan outshot Monmouth 13-11 and had an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
