Day One Recap

BOSTON – After seeing two women qualify for the ECAC Indoor Championships on day one of the John Thomas Terrier Classic, two members of the Manhattan College men's indoor track & field team qualified for the IC4A Indoor Championships on Saturday at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center.  John Dove (Monroe, NY) easily surpassed the IC4A qualifying standard in the mile, while Amir Khaghani (Bethesda, MD) qualified in the 3000 meters.

Dove placed second in his mile heat and 16th overall with a time of 4:08.39, easily surpassing the IC4A standard of 4:14.50.  Khaghani, meanwhile, posted an 8:23.15 clocking to place 29th overall in the 3000.  He needed to run 8:25.00 to qualify in the event.

In addition, Patrick Hennelly (Suffern, NY) and Brandon Parrado (Weehawken, NJ) posted personal-best times in the 3000.  Hennelly's time was 8:41.30, while Parrado finished in 8:52.18.

"This was a very successful meet for the men and women," Head Distance Coach Kerri Gallagher said.  "We brought a small group with the goal of getting in some competitive races and going after some standards.  We accomplished both, and I'm very happy with the way we are developing with each race."

Next weekend, the Jaspers begin their championship season with the Metropolitan Championships.  The women's pole vault and pentathlon, as well as the first day of the men's heptathlon, will take place at Draddy Gymnasium on Thursday, while the rest of the meet is scheduled for Friday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
