Wappingers Falls, NY -
Despite a pair of outstanding pitching performances, Manhattan dropped a doubleheader to Canisius by scores of 4-2 and 3-0 at Dutchess Stadium.

The Jaspers are now 7-19 and 1-4 in the MAAC while the Golden Griffins improve to 15-15 and 6-2 in the league.

Game 1 Recap:
Canisius rallied for three runs in the ninth en route to posting a 4-2 come-from-behind win over Manhattan in game one.

Despite the loss, sophomore LHP Tom Cosgrove (Staten Island, NY / Farrell) was outstanding, striking out a career-high 10 over 8.0 innings of one-run ball in earning a no-decision.

Cosgrove had his stuff working from the beginning, fanning seven over the first three frames, including punching out the side in the third.

The Jaspers broke through with the game's first run in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out rally. Junior Jason Patnick (Hopewell, NJ / IMG Academy (FL)) singled before freshman Anthony Rocchietti (Green Brook, NJ / Watchung) was plunked. Sophomore Anthony Rondon (Miami, FL / Mater Academy Lakes) followed with a base hit to center to plate Patnick.

In the seventh, the Golden Griffins finally got to Cosgrove with a two-out rally of its own. Anthony Massicci drew a a leadoff walk and after moving to second on a sacrifice scored on Joseph Preziuso's two-out RBI double down the right field line. Cosgrove would regroup to get the final out before capping his day with a perfect eighth inning, punctuated by a career-high 10th strikeout.

Manhattan then reclaimed the league in the bottom of the eighth. Junior Jose Carrera (Miami, FL / St. Brendan) clouted a one-out triple before coming around to score on senior Christian Santisteban's (Miami, FL / Gulliver Prep) RBI ground out.

Unfortunately, Canisius would respond with a game-changing two-out rally in the ninth that produced three runs in giving the visitors a 4-2 advantage.

Junior RHP Shawn Kanwisher (Washington Township, NJ / St. Joseph Regional) fell to 3-3 in defeat, striking out two in an inning of relief.

Iannick Remillar worked a perfect bottom of the ninth to close the door on the Jaspers in earning his seventh save of the season. Tyler Smith allowed one run over 2.0 innings in moving to 4-1 with the win.

Carrera paced a seven-hit Manhattan attack, finishing up 2-for-4 with a triple and a run.

Tim Kensinger and Liam Wilson each had two hits while John Conti delivered a pair of RBI to lead the Golden Griffins.

Game 2 Recap:
Canisius defeated Manhattan 3-0 despite a career-high 10 strikeouts from junior LHP Joe Jacques (Shrewsbury, NJ / Red Bank Regional) in the nightcap.

The Golden Griffins broke a scoreless tie on Jack Massa's two-run, bases loaded single in the top of the sixth inning before adding an insurance run in the seventh in completing the doubleheader sweep.

Jacques (0-3) struck out at least one batter in every inning while allowing just three runs, two earned, on five hits in being saddled with the tough-luck loss.

The Jaspers mustered just four hits in the second game while freshman Fabian Pena (Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) drew a pair of walks.

Aaron Casper (3-0) earned the win, striking out two over 2.0 innings while Remillard struck out two in recording the five-out save.
