Riverdale, NY - Niagara scored five-straight goals to break a second-half stalemate en route to posting a 12-8 win over Manhattan on Senior Day.
Prior to the game, the program's six seniors Megan Yarusso (Brewster, NY / Brewster), Claire Roediger (Katonah, NY / Somers), Stefanie Ranagan (Yorktown Heights, NY / Yorktown), Marissa Acosta (Kinnelon, NJ / Kinnelon), Kaitlyn Cunningham (Spring Lake, NJ / Red Bank Catholic) and Casey Silvestri (Pomona, NY / Albertus Magnus) were honored for their dedication to the program.
With the win, the Purple Eagles improve to 7-7 and 3-2 in the MAAC while the Jaspers fall to 4-10 and 0-5 in the league.
Niagara opened the game with four-straight goals before Manhattan fought back with three-straight scores to trim it to 4-3.
Roediger registered the first Jasper goal following an impressive 40-yard open-field pass from Ranagan before Cunningham found the back of the net off a pass from Yarusso. Junior Darby Nolan (Oak Ridge, NJ / Jefferson Township) then capped the spurt with a free-position goal.
The visitors would then answer with back-to-back goals to extend its advantage to 6-3 at the break.
Manhattan came roaring out of the gates in the second half with three-straight goals to tie the game up at 6-6 with just over 25 minutes to play.
Freshman Caitlin Murphy (Carmel, NY / Carmel) ignited the rally with her first collegiate goal before Roediger notched her second score of the afternoon off a Nolan pass. Murphy then found the back of the net again off a feed from freshman Jordyn DiCostanzo (Eastchester, NY / Eastchester).
Unfortunately, Niagara answered with five-straight goals in reclaiming the lead at 11-6 with just over 11 minutes to play.
The Jaspers would counter with goals from Cunningham and Ranagan but it wasn't enough as the Purple Eagles posted the aforementioned 12-8 victory.
Cunningham, Murphy and Roediger each had two goals to lead the way for the Manhattan. Ranagan registered five draw controls to go along with a goal and an assist while Yarusso notched three ground balls with an assist.
Caroline Crump led all players with four goals while pacing the Niagara attack as Andrea Francisco earned the win with eight saves in goal.
Freshman Nikki Prestiano (Cortlandt Manor, NY / Yorktown) made seven saves with four ground balls between the pipes for the Jaspers.
Manhattan returns to action at Iona on Wednesday, April 20 with opening draw slated for 3:00 pm.
