Miami, FL - No. 6 Miami (FL) broke open a scoreless affair with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth en route to posting a 7-3 victory over Manhattan.

The Hurricanes improve to 9-2 while the Jaspers, who have played one of the toughest schedules in the nation to date, fall to 1-5.

Miami (FL) sent 13 batters to the plate in the decisive fifth frame and took advantage of a crucial Manhattan error in plating four unearned runs.

After scattering five singles over the first six frames, the Jasper offense finally got on the board in the top of the seventh with three runs on four hits while trimming the deficit to 7-3.

Senior Christian Santisteban (Miami, FL / Gulliver Prep) led off with a double before scoring on Fabian Pena's (Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) run-scoring double. Pena then came around to score on freshman Richie Barella's (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) RBI single to left field. Barella advanced to second on the throw before moving to third on a ground out and would cross the plate thanks to a Anthony Rocchietti (Fr., Green Brook, NJ / Watchung) single through the left side.

Pena paced Manhattan's nine-hit attack, finishing up 2-for-4 with a double, home run, two runs and wo RBI. Senior Christian Santisteban (Miami, FL / Gulliver Prep) and Jason Patnick (Hopewell, NJ / IMG Academy (FL)) also recorded a pair of hits as the visitors rapped out 10 on the afternoon.

Despite the defeat, junior LHP Joe Jacques (Shrewsbury, NJ / Red Bank Catholic) was solid in allowing just three earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts over 5.0 innings of work.

The bullpen trio of senior RHP Michael Scarinci (Nanuet, NY / Pearl River), classmate Casey Meyers (Brookside, NJ / Mendham) and sophomore LHP Steve Arntsen (Manorville, NY (Eastport-South Manor) relieved Jacques and fired a combined two scoreless innings of relief while keeping the Hurricanes at bay.

Zach Collins paced Miami (FL), finishing up 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run as Danny Garcia was the benefactor in improving to 2-1 with 6.0 scoreless innings.

The Jaspers return to action at Fordham on Tuesday, March 8 with first pitch slated for 3:00 pm.
