South Orange, NJ - Seton Hall blanked Manhattan 2-0 in the first of three games between the teams at Owen T. Carroll Field.

Sophomore LHP Tom Cosgrove (Staten Island, NY / Farrell) was outstanding in defeat, yielding just two runs on eight hits with four strikeouts over 8.0 innings in notching his first career complete game.

Cosgrove's opposite on the mound Shane McCarthy was extremely sharp, scattering just two hits with 11 strikeouts in recording the complete-game shutout.

The Pirates improve to  11-6 while the Jaspers fall to 3-11.

Seton Hall scored single runs in the third and sixth innings and that would be just enough for McCarthy, who allowed just a pair of singles to sophomore Brendan Bisset (New City, NY / Don Bosco Prep (NJ)) and classmate Michael Pfenninger (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central).

McCarthy, who didn't allow a runner past second, got stronger as the game went on and retired the final 14 batters he faced.

Mike Caputo and Zack Weigel each recorded a pair of hits while each scoring one of the two Pirate runs to pace an eight-hit effort.

The teams will conclude their series with a 12:00 pm doubleheader on Saturday, March 19.
