Riverdale, NY - No. 10 North Carolina showed why it is considered one of the preeminent programs in the country with an 18-2 victory over Manhattan in non-conference action at Gaelic Park.


The Tar Heels improve to 4-3 while the Jaspers fall to 1-7.

UNC scored the first five goals en route to jumping out to a 14-1 lead the break. 

After halftime, Manhattan would surrender just four more goals in falling by the aforementioned 18-2 count.

Reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week freshman Parker Giarratana (Delray, FL / Boca Raton Community) and classmate Christian Baldi (Wilmington, DE / Salesianum) each scored for the Jaspers.

Between the pipes, sophomore Michael Zingaro (Cortland Manor, NY / Walter Panas) made a career-high 17 saves to go along with a team-best three ground balls.

For North Carolina, Steve Pontrello scored a game-high five goals while Stephen Kelly went a perfect 16-for-16 in face-offs.

Manhattan hosts Detroit on Saturday, March 19 at 2:30 pm in the MAAC opener for both teams.
