Riverdale, NY - Senior Stefanie Ranagan's (Yorktown Heights, NY / Yorktown) goal in overtime period lifted Manhattan to a thrilling 12-11 win over UMass Lowell at Gaelic Park.
Ranagan's second goal of the game capped an impressive come-from-behind victory for the Jaspers, which trailed 4-0 to start the contest.
With the win, Manhattan improves to 2-1 while the River Hawks fall to 0-2.
Trailing 4-0 in the opening half, senior Claire Roediger (Katonah, NY / Somers) stopped the bleeding with a goal off a free position shot before classmate Megan Yarusso (Brewster, NY / Brewster) follewed suit with a score of her own.
After UMass Lowell briefly quelled the spurt, freshman Molly Fitzpatrick (Yorktown, NY / Lakeland) ripped off two goals and Ranagan notched her first score of the day to tie the score at 5-5.
With the teams still tied at the break by a 6-6 count, the River Hawks assumed 8-7 lead at the 18:09 mark of the second half before Fitzpatrick found the back of the net on back-to-back possessions. Yarusso then converted a free position shot in giving the Jaspers a 10-8 advantage with just over 15 minutes to play.
UMass Lowell would fight back to force over time with a 3-1 spurt before Ranagan gave Manhattan the walk-off win off as a pass from sophomore Kara Hodapp (Oak Ridge, NJ / Jefferson Township).
Fitpatrick had four goals with 10 draw controls while Yarusso added three to lead the way for the Jaspers on offense.
Defensively, freshman Emma Kaishian (Yorktown, NY / Yorktown) had six ground balls to go along with five draw controls while classmate Nikki Prestiano (Cortlandt Manor, NY / Yorktown) made five saves in notching her second win.
Manhattan hosts LIU Brooklyn on Wednesday, March 2 with opening draw slated for 3:00 pm.
