School Record Highlights Season-Opening Meet

Results: Men | Women

WEST POINT, NY – Marisa Robbins (Goshen, NY) broke her own school record in the women's pole vault at the Manhattan College track & field team's first meet of the indoor season on Saturday.  Her performance was one of five ECAC/IC4A-qualifying efforts for the Jaspers at the Crowell Open from Army West Point's Gillis Field House.  The meet was team scored between Manhattan and the Black Knights, with the Jasper women earning a 72-67 win and the Army West Point men posting an 87-76 victory.

Robbins cleared 3.87 meters (12 feet, 8¼ inches) to easily win the competition and better her previous record, set at the 2015 ECAC Indoor Championships, by two centimeters.  She also qualified for the ECAC Championships with that performance.

Also achieving the ECAC qualifying standard was Paige Chapman (Abingdon, MD) in the 60 meters.  She took first in the event with a time of 7.69 seconds.

The Manhattan women registered six other victories and added three second-place finishes.  Kathleen Cibuls (Blue Point, NY) won both of her events in her first collegiate meet.  She took the 60 meter hurdles in 9.20 seconds and also finished first in the triple jump (11.66 m, 38'3¼).  Charlene Pohl (Bisingen, Germany), meanwhile, tallied 3218 points to earn the victory in the pentathlon.

Jasmine Davis (Ronkonkoma, NY) posted a time of 59.51 seconds to win the 400 meters, while Mikeisha Kelly's (Albany, NY) 1:18.51 clocking was good for the victory in the 500 meters.  The duo later teamed with Kathy Cadet (Endicott, NY) and Allyson Oertel (Albany, NY) to place second in the 4x400 meter relay.  Niasia Boone (Morrisville, PA) finished second in the 200 meters (26.32) and Megan Carmody (Rumford, RI) grabbed second place in the mile (5:37.02).  Victoria Cruz (West Nyack, NY), meanwhile, posted a time of 2:27.99 in the 800 meters, which was good for first place.

In addition, three Manhattan men qualified for the IC4A Indoor Championships with their performances on Saturday.  Love Litzell (Ostersund, Sweden) led a Jasper sweep of the first three places in the weight throw with a winning effort of 18.77 m (61'7).  Ryan Addlesberger (Cinnaminson, NJ) had a similarly-dominant showing in the shot put, where he got out to a distance of 16.27 m (53'4½).  The third IC4A qualifier was Hayden Clarke (Townsville, Australia) in the long jump.  He finished second with a mark of 7.02 m (23'0½).

Kyle Watkins (Coram, NY) took first in the 400 with a 50.53-second clocking, while Tom Bonaro's (Pearl River, NY) time of 1:57.76 in the 800 was also good for the victory.  Stefan Hoeller (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany) won the 60 hurdles, an event where the Jaspers earned the top four places, in 8.49 seconds, and he also placed fourth in the pole vault (4.51 m, 14'9½).

Meanwhile, Brenton Foster (Townsville, Australia) captured second place in the high jump (1.92 m, 6'3½) and Ire Bozovicar (Potoki, Slovenia) ended up third in both the shot put (14.15 m, 46'5¼) and weight throw (15.84 m, 51'11¾).  Gustave Menocal (Bronx, NY) was second in the weight throw with a mark of 16.13 m (52'11).  In the 60 hurdles, Dennis Eriksson (Sundsvall, Sweden) took second with an 8.54-second clocking.

On Friday, the Jaspers will take part in the Seahawk Shootout at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.  Competition gets underway at 2 p.m.
