RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan College women's basketball team concluded its non-conference schedule against New Hampshire at Draddy Gymnasium on Wednesday night.  Playing at home for the first time in a month, the Jaspers (4-7) came up on the short end of a 59-42 decision against the Wildcats (9-3).

After the teams traded early baskets, New Hampshire went on an 11-0 run to open up a 13-2 cushion.  The Wildcats led 13-5 at the end of the first quarter and held a 17-8 advantage midway through the second period.  However, KellyAnne O'Reilly (Montville, NJ) sank a three-pointer, then Gabby Cajou (Stony Point, NY) and Amani Tatum (Cambria Heights, NY) followed with layups to bring Manhattan within two, 17-15.  Carlie Pogue hit a jumper to push the margin back to four points, 19-15, before layups by Cajou and Tatum tied the score at 19-19 with 2:28 left before halftime.

Brittni Lai nailed a trey late in the second quarter to put the Wildcats up 22-19 at intermission.  New Hampshire then opened the second half on a 13-2 run to take a 38-21 lead with 4:13 remaining in the third quarter.  The margin was 15 points, 46-31, entering the final stanza.  The Jaspers cut the deficit to 13 on a Kayla Grimme (Altoona, PA) layup to start the fourth quarter, but it would get no closer, as New Hampshire handed Manhattan its third straight defeat, 59-42.

Grimme paced the Jaspers with 12 points and eight rebounds.  Cajou added 11 points, while Tatum finished with seven points, seven steals and six assists.  Julie Høier (Aabyhoej, Denmark), meanwhile, pulled down six rebounds.  Manhattan shot 33.3 percent (17-of-51) from the floor, 11.1 percent (2-of-18) from three-point range, and 66.7 percent (6-of-9) at the charity stripe.

For New Hampshire, Pogue had a double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds.  Lai and Ashley Storey contributed nine points apiece, while Kristen Anderson handed out 10 assists.  The Wildcats shot 44 percent (22-of-50) from the field and outrebounded the Jaspers 33-32.  New Hampshire went 4-for-14 (28.6 percent) from downtown and 11-for-13 (84.6 percent) at the free throw line.

Manhattan (0-2 MAAC) resumes its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) slate with a 7 p.m. matchup against Siena (2-9, 1-1 MAAC) on Friday.  The Jaspers and Saints split the season series in 2015-16, with each squad winning at home.

NOTES: This was the start of a season-long four-game homestand for Manhattan…The Jaspers played for just the third time in 21 days… Manhattan's four non-conference wins were its most (not including MAAC Tournament victories) since the 2011-12 campaign…The Jaspers and Wildcats met for the third straight year and the ninth time overall…New Hampshire leads the all-time series 6-3…Manhattan used its ninth different starting lineup of the season…Tatum had seven steals and six assists for the second consecutive game…Emma Bedeker (Ottawa, IL) made her collegiate debut in the contest, recording two points and a steal in two minutes of action.
