RIVERDALE, NY – In front of nearly 50 alumni, the Manhattan College men's and women's swimming teams once again put forth strong performances at the Ethical & Cultural Fieldston School on Saturday.  The Jasper women earned a 137-122 victory over St. Francis Brooklyn, while the men's squad split against St. Francis Brooklyn and NJIT.  Manhattan beat the Terriers 143-114, but was defeated by the Highlanders, 165-97.

Kali Nembach (Lynbrook, NY) finished first in all four of her events—including two individual races—to pace the women's team.  She won the 50 yard freestyle in 25.95 seconds, while also taking the 100 yard freestyle in 56.58 seconds.  Nembach was also a member of Manhattan's victorious 200 yard medley and 200 yard freestyle relay squads.  Sara Buckley (East Setauket, NY) was second behind Nembach in the 50 freestyle (26.06) and third in the 100 freestyle (57.40).

Megan Pagano (Lagrangeville, NY), who swam the leadoff leg on the medley relay, won the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 1:04.26.  She also placed second in the 200 yard backstroke (2:18.75).  Carolyn Crocker (Broad Channel, NY), meanwhile, took second in the 100 backstroke (1:06.28).  Cassandra Rubino (Thiells, NY) posted a personal-best time of 2:20.53 to earn the win in the 200 yard butterfly.  She added a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:03.22), which was won by Alexandra Hutzler (Miller Place, NY) in 1:00.82.

“We saw several drops in time from the last few weeks, which helped the women pull out the win,” Head Coach Joe Murtha said.  “It is exciting to start seeing them post these times as we get into the next phase of our tranining.”

On the men's side, Timothy Valentine (Massapequa, NY) was the only swimmer to break 1:00 in the 100 yard breaststroke, posting a time of 59.83 seconds.  Valentine also took first in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:15.46) and was third in the 200 yard individual medley (2:04.50).  Tyler Dalton (East Stroudsburg, PA), meanwhile, placed second in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.08) and third overall in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.08).

Christopher Reyes (Queens, NY) finished first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.15 seconds, and he also placed second in the 100 butterfly (53.41).  Rich Llewellyn (East Islip, NY) came in just behind Reyes with a 53.62-second clocking.  He picked up another third-place showing in the 200 yard freestyle (1:50.41).  In addition, Tyler McCloskey (Orangeburg, NY) secured second place in the 200 butterfly (2:03.22), while Evan Battisti (East Meadow, NY) was second in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:10.32) and third in the 500 yard freestyle (4:56.63).

“The men swam well today and earned a split decision against St. Francis Brooklyn and NJIT,” Murtha said.  “As a team, we are very excited to have had such a strong start to the season.  We've seen a number of personal bests already this year and we are set up nicely for the upcoming months.”

After a week off, the Jaspers hit the road for the first time since their season opener on Nov. 19.  Manhattan visits Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rival Monmouth in a meet that will also include Siena.
