WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y.
- Rider swept a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) doubleheader from Manhattan by scores of 7-1 and 8-3 on Senior Day at Dutchess Stadium.

With the wins, the Broncs improve to 23-17 and 11-3 in the MAAC while the Jaspers fall to 14-30 and 7-13 in the league.

Senior Chris Kalousdian (Fort Salonga, N.Y. / Kings Park) led the way for Manhattan, finishing 5-for-8 with a pair of multi-hit performances. Kalousdian has now hit safely in 17 straight and 19-of-21 with 16 multi-hit games during that time.

Game One
Rider scored six runs in the 10th inning to break open a close game en route to posting a 7-1 victory over Manhattan. The Jaspers had their opportunities throughout, rapping out 14 hits but stranded 13 runners on the bases.

After threatening in the bottom of the first with a pair of one-out singles, Manhattan broke through with a run in the top of the bottom of the second. Senior Mikey Miranda (Miami, Fla. / Florida Christian) drew a two-out walk before moving to second on a Michael Pfenninger (Fr., Flemnington, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) single. Classmate Brendan Bisset (New City, N.Y. / Don Bosco Prep (N.J.)) followed with a run-scoring single up the middle to plate Miranda.

The Jaspers would continue to keep pressure on the Broncs, threatening in the fourth and the fifth innings but were unable to further dent the scoreboard.

Freshman LHP Tom Cosgrove (Staten Island, N.Y. / Monsignor Farrell), meanwhile, scattered six hits and a walk with a pair of strikeouts over his 7.0 innings of work while being aided by a pair of double-play grounders before exiting with a 1-0 lead.

Rider would tie the game up in the top of the ninth on Brian Uliana's two-out, RBI double to send the game to extra innings.

After tying the game up, the Broncs plated the aforementioned six runs in the top of the 10th.

Eight of the nine Manhattan regulars hit safely, led by Kalousdian, who finished up 3-for-4. Bisset, Miranda, sophomore Jason Patnick (Hopewell, N.J. / IMG Academy (Fla.))  and junior Christian Santisteban (Miami, Fla. / Gulliver Prep) all added two hits for the Jaspers.

Rider, which also notched 14 hits, was led by James Locklear, who finished up 3-for-5 with a run while Greg Fazio, Justin Thomas, Eric Strano and Uliana all had two hits.

RHP Josh Sharik (2-2) earned the win, scattering two hits and a walk with one strikeout over 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.

Game Two
Rider scored seven unanswered runs in posting an 8-3 win over Manhattan in game two while securing a doubleheader sweep for the day.

After the Broncs jumped in front 1-0 in the top of the second on Mike Parsons' RBI single, the Jaspers responded with three runs in the bottom part of the frame. Patnick belted a one-out triple and would come around to score one out later on a fielding error. Pfenninger and Bisset were then plunked to load up the bases and sophomore Matt Forlow (Cold Spring, N.Y. / Haldane) followed with a two-run single to give Manhattan a 3-1 advantage.

Trailing by two in the fifth, the Broncs took advantage of a Jasper miscue in plating three runs and reclaiming the lead at 4-3. Eric Strano led off the frame with a single before advancing to second on a fielding miscue at second base while Christian Estevez reached via a fielder's choice. The runners advanced to second-and-third on a successful sacrifice before Nick Richter followed with a walk to load the bases. Locklear then blooped a two-run game-tying double to left field while advancing the go-ahead run to third. One batter later, Thomas plated Richter with RBI ground out to give the visitors what would prove to be an insurmountable advantage.

The Jaspers immediately threatened in the bottom part of the frame. Kalousdian led off with a single before advancing to second on a ground out and third on a Joe McClennan (Sr., Highland Mills, N.Y. / Cornwall Central) single. Patnick followed with a walk to load the bases up while forcing Rider to the bullpen. Unfortunately, LHP David Hafer induced an inning-ending 3-2-3 double-play grounder to keep Manhattan at bay.

The Broncs added to the lead with two runs in each of the next two frames in providing the final 8-3 tally.

Kalousdian notched two of the Jaspers' seven hits while Bisset reached base safely three times to highlight the offensive effort.

A balanced team effort saw eight of the nine Rider regulars combine for the team's 10 hits.

Sophomore LHP Joe Jacques (Shrewsbury, N.J. / Red Bank Regional) was the tough-luck pitcher of record for Manhattan, falling to 2-2 on the year. The reigning MAAC Pitcher of the Week allowed four runs, two earned, on four hits with five strikeouts over 5.0 innings.

LHP Nick Margevicius (4-4) earned the win, striking out four while yielding three runs, zero earned, on six hits over 4.1 innings.

The teams will conclude their series on Sunday, May 3 with a single game at 2 p.m.
